Just finished my switch over to propane and was wondering how long should a 33LB tank last? Have the toyota 6cly. with a Impco 225 mixer. Thanks

Would be interested in knowing what kind of mileage your getting from Propane.. let us know your results and if you can tell a power difference..

Did you do a full swap, or a dual fuel? I've heard you should expect 1-2 MPG worse on Propane, and a little less power, both I think can be overcome with a little advance of the dissy. I'm looking forward to hearing what you discover since I want to dual fuel sometime down the line.

You are not going to get off that easy...

Let's gets some more specs and see some pictures of your setup, I am insterested in how large a 33lb tank is as I have never heard of such a size.

I had some of those tanks on a RV. About the same arround as a bbq tank but 6" or so taller.

Sounds like an 8 gal tank to me..

Forklift size. You will get most of a days wheelin on one typically.

I did a full swap on it. I used a VFF-30 safety shut off, a model L convertor and a model 225 mixer. Yes it is a fortlift tank. Will try to post up some pictures

to get the best out of LPG you need high compression 9.5 - 1 is good but 10.5 - 1 is better.... if you do not have this compression you may see a drop in power and economy... but don't worry your engine is going to live a long time to make up for that...

it's an awesome fuel, clean, non middle east dependent, and high octane at least a 104....

oh yer thats a small tank, i would think maybe 5 hours wheeling just a guess....

And the really sweet thing about Propane, it's only 72 CENTS a GALLON where I live! (that price reflects the summer price hike)

Are you kidding me! It's like 2.65-2.80 out here (central CA)!

I run the Impco 425 mixer on my 396cid and can get about 4-5 hours of wheelin out of the smaller forklift tank - all day out of the larger tank (10g?)

I think the duel feul set up will disappoint. It seems to me that you can either tune to run on pump gas or tune to run on propane- half way and you won't be happy. I think thats where propane got the bad rap for low power and less economy. Just my $.02

I think there is difference between pounds and gallons. Would that reflect the price difference? I know Ca adds a lot of tax but

I run dual fuel and it is fine. I figure about the same mileage when running either fuel which is right around 10.

I run a 10 gallon fork lift tank on my 40 and it will last me the entire day with a little extra to spare.

For my 2f I haven't done any engine mods besides the HEI dizzy from the previous owner. I have advanced my timing to 12 degrees at idle and my cruiser runs like a banshee. Also you might want to re-curve the dizzy if you have a HEI. I have mine set on medium weights so the weights wrap up pretty fast to 32 degrees.

Make sure to really lean out the idle mixture. You need to turn the screw in all the way and back it out 1.5 turns. Seems to work perfect for me.

Nope, that's the price per gallon at the station I have been going to. They charge a different price if it's being used as a motor fuel than as a cooking fuel because it is taxed differently, but it's only about $0.20 per gallon or so.

Don't get me wrong - I'm glad you are happy with your set up but... you would have a tough time getting your motor to run well on pump gas with 10.5:1 compression and 36 degrees advance with lightweight springs on the dizzy. On duel fuel set-ups you basically have to tune to run on 87 octane regular gas and settle for less output from the propane than you could otherwise get. It's all about the trade offs and what you want from your rig.
