So as I'm rebuilding my engine, I've decided I would like to do a propane conversion. It is carburated, and I hear I would need a mixer and something new with the carb?

Can anyone link me to a site where I can buy these things, and get an impression of how much it will cost?

my friend has had many propane trucks and actually has all the stuff off of his 67 F100 just laying around but i think he wants to put it back on at some point. he said he got a lot more power and better mileage too. the only thing is, is that he lost his favorite truck because his sister was driving it around and somehow something caught fire, the clutch would work and the fire got to the propane tank and pretty much obliterated the truck. he said once it blew the blow out valve, it shot a 50-75 ft flame out and then proceeded to blow up. it was such a hot fire that it melted his cast iron heads, windshield, alluminim stuff and all kind of stuff. burned down like 25 acres of thier neighbors land and some one about a half mile away said that some of thier pictures fell of the wall.

Cars burn down just the same with gasoline, maybe not quite as easy to ignite but they do. I wouldn't worry about that if you are design something along the lines of a tool box so it is enclosed in metal, and don't drive over fire like your friend. I've actually thought of going propane as well before, from my research got propane looked like the best option unless you are knowledgeable in propane injection systems and are patient enough to hunt down all the parts.

Yeah, i'm not very concerned about the small fire risk, it really is just like gasoline, just requires a little more care. My tanks will be located in the bed of the truck.

Also, there is honestly no other way I'd want to go out than wheeling my truck :]

Thank you for the link, $700 is much less than I was expecting, so as soon as the engine is rebuilt, it will be converted!

Hey- I highly suggest the propane conversion! Go to GotPropane.com; they're outta Phoenix and do the best, and most complete kit around for aboout $1k. Cheaper than going fuel injected, and awesome performance when crawlin'. I've been running it for several years now and am very happy with it. Check out my rig and call for any questions at sanjuanoffroad.com

How big a tank do you use in a system like that and what is the mileage per tank?

Just looking for a rough estimate.
