I don't know much about VHF handhelds, other than I'm not supposed to be using one without a license.

I just bought 7 Maxon VHF handheld radios from a state auction. 5 are Maxon SP200VS, and 2 are Maxon SL3410. The 5 seem to all have 1 frequency programmed. The 2 other ones I think need new Ni-Cad batteries. The other 5 take nickle-hydride, and take a full charge.

If I take these radios into a shop to have the 5 MURS frequencies programmed in, how much do you think they would charge me, and what would they do with the programming already in it?

Kinda depends on the shop, and where they are. A common price in NC is $35 or so per radio, in onesie-twosies. Multiples like 5, or 7 might get you some break from that, especially if they are very similar models. But also be aware that you may want to get them checked out for power output, Receive sensitivity, modulation, etc. at the same time; that will cost you more. On the high end, I would think that $75.00 just to reprogram a radio would be on the rather high side. But that's just me. Your mileage & pain threshhold might vary.

Thanks.

I found the cable ( Maxon ACC 2002 ), and the software ( ACC 903 ) for just under $100. That might be the way to go. This comes on a 3.5 floppy, and one needs to know DOS which I don't. My buddy could help me out on that end.

Having a hard time finding Ni-Cad batteries for my Maxon SL 3410. All it says on the battery is BBEAC.

The Maxon SP200 batteries ( Model ACC-206 ) are 7.5V nickle metal hydrides, and are $60 each.:crybaby: I saw some knockoff batteries on e-bay for $38, but state they are 7.2V?

Can you test these batteries. My radio's turn on, but I think I'm supposed to be getting a green light when transmitting?

I would like to think someone on e-bay would have the AA clam shells for that radio if they were a option on that model. Batteries plus maybe able to rebuild the packs also.
Thomas Distributing is my go to for batteries
