I've been tossing around the idea of selling my '82 HJ47 in the not too distant future :crybaby:. My interests have changed recently and the fact that I have a FJ45 coming soon doesn't help. The troopy is very solid and runs great. It has the 2H diesel, H41 trans, and split case. It leaks a drop or two of oil after each drive from the trans and t-case. There is some rust around the usual cruiser places (wheel wells, rear sill, etc) but nothing serious or something that can't easily be fixed. The previous owner tried his hand at rust repair, but it certainly wasn't anything to write home about. These areas are shown in white primer in the pictures. I imported it in June and haven't done anything with it but drive it to work and around town some. It does have a Texas title and current safety inspection.

So my question is, what are these selling for? I've seen a few on eBay recently, but don't really know how mine compares. Some I think go for way too much money and one recently that went super cheap. Any ideas?

Tough question. It really depends on your timing, where you post it for sale, and a little luck. If you want to try to get more than you paid, try ebay. If you want to sell it for its REAL price, sell it here.

Its up to you, start at a price you come up with...the market sets the price in the end or you don't sell it.

I agree with 1tontoy Chris, it is really hard to tell. Yours seems to have quite a bit of rust, and the windscreen frame will need some work (Marv has a number of RHD frames, so that is good for you). It only has 203,000 kms (I think- from the photo), so that will make it very attractive. Is the frame in decent shape?

I would put it on Ebay and set the reserve at a price you would be happy to part with it for. That way you only sell it if you get what you want for it, and you are only out of pocket the cost of the add if it does not meet the reserve.

I have a cheap BJ40 her in Adelaide if anyone wants a parts donor for that one:)

Cheers,

Josh

There's no denying the rust factor, but its certainly not a basket case. Its a very workable project truck for somebody with welding skills and time. The two things I really don't have right now. The odometer reading is not correct. The cable was disconnected when I got it so I have no idea what its true mileage is. No telling how long ago 203,000 km happened. The frame is in great shape.

It was delivered to Manzanillo?

That is correct. It was shipped to Manzanillo and transferred to a feeder vessel that travels back and forth to Galveston, TX. It cost me 3 weeks on delivery time, but saved me money in the end.

I've imported a bunch in the past few years and prices have tanked but they seem to have leveled off. The guy in FL seems to have dumped his remaining vehicles last week on eBay at no reserve which might be indicative of the market or he might have just stopped importing and wanted out.

Best guess I'd say you could sell that for $8000 easy. Clean it up a bit with some paint and throw bigger tires on it and you could get closer to $10K. Those are prices if you're patient.

The holidays are coming, summer is over, and heating bills will start piling up so people's fun-money is about to vanish. If you're gonna sell, do it now.

I woulda been all over that LV a couple months ago.....
