Frame pins are way different from shackle pins, they are not interchangable at all.

OME makes very nice ones.

What are you going to use for shackles? The 4+ ones from Man-a-fre are very nice as are the ones from OME.

Just get greasable pins in the shackles and frame pins and you will be happy for years. I give a squirt of grease in each pin with each oil change and it keeps the suspension nice and quiet.

Bill, thanks for that advice, that's a great idea and I'll use it.

Andrew, thanks for the clarification. I decided to go with the CCOT lift kit and their 1.5" shackles with greasable pins. They don't seem to make frame pins, so I'm going to have to find a different retailer for those. SOR are too steep at $25 per pin...........

I have the HFS from CCOT and I would suggest that you get the 2 1/2 shackels in back and the 1 1/2 in from otherwise your front will be higher than the rear. I had to go back and change the rears because I didn't like the look. Good luck U'll love the kit.

for any who haven't been enlightened by common bolt beating with the intention to reuse whatever threaded bolt or stuck a$$ threaded point of attatchment, before you bash in the first threads which will fawk up the chance to reuse that bolt, after removing the nut, screw it back on almost all the way (this way there's no chance that the nut twist farther onto the bolt during the beating which can have the first threads and the bolt itself the main receiver of your blow. this would fawk it back to hell, so keep the nut sitting just off the bolt, but 95% threaded on so the force has maximun amount of distribution from the nut to the bolt while keeping the threads safe) then beat the hell out of it until the bolt frees from whatever it goes thru. but in dealing with bushings, the torch method is way easier and keeps the fawking pain in da a$$ problems one fewer to biatch over. but i know most if not all of you already know this, but just incase some poor soul doesn't and/or isn't mechanically inclined, here ya go. sorry for the length

Thanks for the heads up! Couple questions for you: Did you have to extend your brake lines with this kit? Did you reuse your frame pins and if not, where did you buy your new ones....I'm having trouble figuring out the best place to get those.

Thanks!

JP

I didnt have a torch when i replaced my shackles, But i did use the drill bit to perforate the bushings, it worked great.

For the size lift you talking about, you don't need extended brake lines. With the money you save, just order the SOR greaseable hanger pins. BTW, I too have the HFS and love it. My only two beefs with the kit is that you get new everything except the hager pns, and if you torque the shackle pins to FSM spec the shackles crimp in. On the other hand, the ride is fantastic on road and off.

Thanks Bill! I guess I'll order the SOR pins.

I did extend all of the brake lines at the same time when I did the lift. I had ordered the pins from SOR and at the same time is when I ordered the brake lines. I would suggest to spend the extra cash on the new greaseble pins since u'll probably end up tearing apart the ones that are in there now. Good luck.

You'll know all about it soon. The fixed pins seem to vulcanize to the bushings and are a major pain to get out. If you are in the rust belt it wil be worse, if your suspension had work in the last few years it will be better. If you don't have a torch etc. get all your prybars, screwdrivers, plyers, pickleforks etc. ready as well as as drill with a long skinny bit. Once you remove the nut from the back of the pin and the bolt from the front you can hammer the pin out a ways. (exhaust is likely in the way one one side) If you can see the bushing you may be able to get the drill in there and start perferating it a bit. Then its just pull and twist and curse ( don't forget to skin your knuckels a bit) Stop, drink some more coffee, talk to a telephone solicitor, your ex-wife's lawyer or whatever gets you really wound up then go at it again. Just about the time you are about to lose your religion the pin will come out. Great! One down three to go (plus the shackles)

Good luck!

(the install will be easy after this)
he's absoloutly wright , well written ! got goosebumps just reading it!

Well, the kit gets here today. I'm not going to tackle it this weekend and instead use that time to make sure I've got everything (plus I'm now waiting for the frame pins to come in from SOR). One more question: When you guys did your lifts, did you use all new hardware for your shocks? I don't think the HFS kit comes with new bushings for the shocks and I'm positive that old rubber won't cut it anymore. Any suggestions?

JP

My HFS kit came with bushings for the shocks. I assume yours will have them too.

Bill

Thanks Bill, good to know.
