Hi all

I am new here, so please bear with me. I have read a lot on this forum since buying my truck, and it has been very helpful. (2lte problems, but all good now)

A few questions about the 4wd engagement:

I have manual hubs fitted to the front hubs, which I think are retrofit, so would this make the Hublock dash switch redundant.

Should the Rear Difflock light on the tacho "test" when switching on the ignition? I ask this, as I have engaged H4 and L4, and the light does not illuminate or flash. (i have not checked the bulb yet)
Also, should I get rear difflock in H4 and L4, or only L4?

Many Thanks

Technically yes, but I use mine as a reminder I have my hubs on.

Mine doesn't

From memory it only operates when you are in 4WD and Low range and also moving under 5 k's per hour...However there are ways to fool the little control box to think you are in 4wd all the time so you could lock the diff anytime

Many Thanks

Thanks for the info kbushnz. Much appreciated.

I just had a look at the rear diff, and there are no cables or electrics connected to it.

Does this meen the rear difflock has been removed at some stage? Or does the difflock light on the dash not indicate it once had one?

If so, do I have LSD front and rear?

Thanks

I would say someone has swapped it out for themselves when they sold the vehicle. If the diff has no plug on it for the electrics, I would say this is the case. Most likely swapped in a regular 4.88 third member from another prado. They are open diff's no LSD that I know of. Front is same, but high pinion.

So in essence, you could easily swap in a E-locker IF they only changed the third member and not the entire axle. I wouldve done an axle swap personally for simplicity. I believe the E-locker diff is slightly different? maybe not for the LJ78 diff's though, If the locker is from a LJ78 It might pop right in because of the special 4.88 carrier that these trucks have......
anyone confirm on this?
Crushers knows ask him.

cheers

Its rather unlikely they would swap just a third member as the mating faces are a completely different shape to a std diff and you would need to get the welder out to make up some new flange area..
However the whole rear axle assy may have been changed...or just perhaps someone has changed the instrument cluster?
The elocker looks like this.

Do you have one of these switches?
