Just bought a 2021 LX570 from Carvana and took it in to the local Lexus dealer for a PPI before my 7 day return window expires. The only issue that came up was that both rear shocks are seeping/weeping. Car had been serviced at a Lexus dealership its entire life and I did not see an issue with the shocks mentioned in any of the service records on the My Lexus site. The truck has approximately 60k miles.
Question I have is how big of an issue is this? Is it common to have issues with the shocks on these trucks after only 5 years? Would this be any sort of red flag that I should return the truck to Carvana?
The service writer at the dealership said it wasn’t urgent to replace them immediately and quoted me $1500 to replace both. The shock replacement would probably be covered by the Carvana warranty but I’m guessing Carvana would make me take it to something like a Firestone repair shop that wouldn’t use OEM parts. I’m thinking that’s not a great idea. Anyone have any experience with a Carvana or Carmax warranty where they will pay you the amount of the estimate from their preferred repair shop that you can use that to offset the cost of your own chosen repair shop?
Thanks in advance for any advice on these issues.
