49K miles around Penn and Jersey I think (carfax trail)
19K miles from me around Colorado when I replaced it, looked marginal from the outside, inside was bad, cracked and almost worn through to the outside.

130K miles, all in FL, and the original hose is looking pretty good.

PHH????
Want to make clear what it stands for.
Thanks.

You mean PPH - Pesky Peater Hose.

I think my wife would agree with that description :).

You last three guys are living on borrowed time. It's OK as the hose is easy to get at when you need to pull the head 'cause it blew the gasket while the wife was driving and she didn't notice the guage was pegged.

I was not very clear on my last post. I had the PHH changed back in June when I had a new radiator installed. Sorry about that mis- com.

Okay, I am not in the USA but here my numbers:

PHH failed and changed at 52800 miles. :o

Mostly town traffic, stop and go in tropical climate !!

all in missouri, 127mi, inspected at 116 and no signs of it going bad, (yes I will get to later this summer as a PM)

It seems that most of the ones that failed were from the west and were '95+.
I find it strange that some have failed with such low miles (use it or lose it???).
My conclusion is that most of the people that own 80's live out west :D

Yeah..so I'm told. A few weeks back, I was convinced I had a HG prob as I was heading out to S.C.....a Quick test at the dealer found no evidence of same (it was an exhaust gas diag, I think....) Anyway, not the HG prob I had suspected, so I blew off the PHH replacement. SInce 'she' doesn't drive it at all (she's only 4'10"...cant get in..), I'll avoid THAT problem.

Brings me to a question, and an apology for temporarily hijacking the thread. Just how reliable IS this so-called exhaust gas test to diagnose a leaky head gasket?

Thanks Junk, BTW, for the P0401 advice while I was in S.C...........Light's still on...I'll live with it a while.

123K miles (all in Kentucky) and appears to be original - but I checked it last weekend and my little hose is hard and bulging. :o

Ordered the clamps Monday....

I want to go one record as the 93 LC owner on maybe the most borrowed time; 240,000 on original hose.

I still want to know if anyone used the gates green style hose and how did it work out?

I have a hose from the KW semi dealer along with the torque hose clamps (think thats what the call them?) ready to be installed, anyone!?

I installed the gates green stripe hose with no problems. Due to the stiffness of the thick green stipe hose, installing it easily requires removing and reinstalling the vertical metal pipe to which the PHH fastens. Many find that to be an impossible task.

Replaced the OEM hose at 80K miles on a 1995.
Truck has spent most of life in the North West.

Hose was just a little swollen and very minor sign of weeping.

Sure glad it's been replaced with the hot summer we are having. :)

Lurk,

In a few weeks my bro in law will be here with his '93 and I may dethrone you. He's got around 275,000 on the original PHH and it's gonna get changed as soon as the engine quits ticking...

I have 245,000, so I beat Lurk but he have one year on me. 275,000 takes the cake.

as i stated wayyyyy above, mine blew going down the road. When i replaced it, it took forever!!!! My question is to those that have replaced it, there were two bolts holding the metal pipe to the motor. One of the bolts you could barely get to, and the other was friggin' imposable.........so, i kinda just bent the hose on the bracket enough to squeeze the new 3 inch rubber hose on and then bent it back. Did anyone get to remove both bolts holding the metal hose on?
