Yeah, 3.5 turns is a little scary on the highway. Especially if someone used to a modern car steering response drives your rig on the highway. For trail use, I don't know if it matters really.
 
More is better in this case. Slower response will be safer on the highway. More turns has another bonus that never gets talked about. A 4 turn will have more leverage than a 3 turn if you end up in a dead engine situation or have a hydraulic failure. ;)

Not really,
The fist section of the turning style is the same on both boxes. It is only the ends of the 3.5 tyrn box that you actually get a "faster" turning ratio.

You are talking about a sag PS box. Leverage on mild trails will never be an issue.
 
I was recently thinking about this,

power is power, same psi pump same pressure no mater how many turns.

More area pressure is applied then more leverage, internal area.

if manual then more ratio less effort per distance, so they say.

3.5, ha ha 2.75 or 2.5 on mine and love it, more DD though.
 
That is why I run the 3 1/2" Sag instead of the run of the mill 3 1/8". Bigger piston means more steering power.

When I made my original comment about ratios I was thinking dead engine or hyd probs. Seems like the 4 turn would be better than say a 3 but maybe not.
 
At no assist you are probably right. However they all suck ass....

I would be interested in any hard numbers, to prove me right or wrong.
and wether or not same piston size with different ratio makes a difference.
Also how much more leverage say a 3.5 is over the 3.125?

i know piston size and vehicle weight were related.

I do not know for sure, its just what makes sense to me at this time.
 
I've got a 3 mounting bolt 3.5 turn on mine. It's fine on the highway. I think you would also be able to vary the response by the length of the pitman arm also. I bought the drop arm from downey, no bump steer whatsoever. Saginaw is great, I wish this was the first thing I did.
