I'm no expert on Chebbies, but with the trucks, doesn't the box mount on the outside of the rail? If so, that's the wrong location for a swap into a 40. Most use a 68 Impala box which has 4 turns and the correct mount. That's what I used and it's been great.

Peesalot had a great part number somewhere in the archives for a mid 70s Jeep J20 box that had the correct mount and a larger power pistion. If I were doing it again, I would try and find that. You might search or PM him.

Almost everyone doing a Saginaw conversion uses an inside the frame mount 800 series GM gear box. These are found on all GM full and mid-sized vehicles (Impala, Malibu, Grand Prix, Caddys, S-10, etc.), or on many Jeep vehicles. Most of the GM Pickup/Truck boxes are an outside the frame mount (out in the left front wheel well), and can not be used.
