Power Steering for 1981 BJ42

I've got a 1981 BJ42 (3B Diesel, Canadian) and was wondering if anyone knows what kind of power steering I should put in it. I don't want to spend tons of money and I don't mind doing the work myself, seeing how I've just completely rebuilt my "beast".

I'm going with an FJ62 setup on my '81 BJ42. Huge/heavy stearing box and not too bad $$$ if you get from one being parted out. Install this winter sometime.

Is the entire setup from a FJ62? How much fabrication did you have to do?

up to 35's I'd recommend fj60 ps. https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=21048 Also search the board here.. it' mounts up like a scout box. simple. Bigger tires go with saginaw or hydro assist on the 60 box. hth

hoiw about a stock PS box from a 79-83 fj40?

don't know where the pump mounts on a BJ?

The best thing about 60 ps (saginaw too, but saginaw feels to soft to me) is that you loose the center steering arm and take out another link. If your looking for stock that or the mini trick ps is good. otherwise I think the 60 box is teh best way to go. I used the 60 column and welded it to the end of my stock 40 colunm.

How much fabrication needs to be done if I decide on using a 60 series PS?

minimal.. depending on the parts you use and if you decide to box the frame, sleeve the holes etc.

Get a 60 box and column. It's pretty much bolt up and weld the end of the 40 column to the 60 intermediate shaft or use the 60 column. You'll have a better idea when you have parts in hand
