My dad has a 2000 4Runner with the power antenna. Currently the antenna won't go down. When you turn on the radio you can hear the motor grind/click.

It's safe to assume that just the antenna mast needs to be replaced right? I'd guess that the antenna is slightly bent or something.

I'd like to fix it for him, but want to be sure I'll be able to do it.

I found this link for removal instructions.

It says to pull the mast out while it's going up. Will I have any problems since the antenna is stuck at the extended position? Or are the instructions just saying that I should pull out the mast while the motor is running?
