SILVER Star
Hi! After a long time trolling (in admiration) all sorts of topics, I'm being brave enough to tap the impressive collective wisdom and experience hanging out in this fantastic forum.
I have a Japan built/right-side drive1996 FZJ80. It took 5 years of casual searching to find just the right one - great shape, low mileage, limited electronics, right year and features. I spent time in Southern Africa living in/on and L70 for months traveling across 6 countries and absolutely fell in love. So I knew what I wanted and built her out with SA Big Country drawers, gull wings, roof tent; a Delta (Minnesota made)rear bumper and double swing rack; National Luna fridge; custom fabricated fresh water tank & and pantry shelving (inside the gull wings), and custom storage cubbies throughout. Best. Vehicle..Ever. I love her! Perfect for 50-something solo female camper/off-roadrr.
Ok, so the above is mostly just momma's pride, but it sets the context for my question, which I hope your collective L80 brains can noodle on.....
I had the truck completely reconditioned last year by the fantastic Jason and Matt at Ozark Overlanding and rolled out for a first 3 month shakedown trip. Absolutely loved the journey but but two issue were annoying:
1. The cruise control maxes out at 110km/68mph. Terrible in long states (I live in Saint Louis and you're not going anywhere without 1000 miles or high speed limits and nothing much else - a bit boring. But also this bigger problem: my FZJ sat for 3 years in my driveway because the day I bought it I was diagnosed with BC and man did that take some time for recovery. Because of complications, I get significant pain my knees, arm, hands, feel and legs. Cruise control helps with all of this. I want to remove the regulator - has anyone tried - and how?
Would love your thoughts!
