yea go ahead, I decided to keep my 62, do some work to it and buy another rental property.... scary I can either buy an 80 or put a good 20-25% DP on a rental...

OK, I made an offer but it didn't turn into anything. So I guess I will keep looking I think I am going to widen the playing field to include the 100 series as well. I wish I had jumped on that 100 that Alf (screename) was trying to get rid of a few weeks ago down in GA. The 80 or 100 will be a daily driver for at least a couple years and then hopefully garaged to be a mildly wheeled vehicle nothing super extreme. Please keep your eyes open and let me know if you see any good deals out there. For starters any thoughts on this 100??

I don't want to sound like a broken record but while you are searching, go drive a few 80s and 100s you find for sale nearby. The driving experience is very different between the two.

I believe you'll find the 100 is a nicer DD option and if the trail time won't get too challenging, it will more than hold it's own off pavement.

I am lining up a few local ones to go try hopefully this weekend. I have the 40 for anything too crazy of road. I am more thinking about camping in the "holy land" and trails of that caliber. Let me toss this question out there. I have read the slee off road 100 FAQ. Which of the following two would handle better off road a 99 with rear lockers or a 2000 with VSC and A-trac? If both were same mileage and priced equally which way would anyone here go?

FWIW I have a FJC that can either run rear locker or ATRAC. I find myself now using ATRAC 98% of the time over the rear locker - BUT - I would be happy with either since I don't wheel my FJC very hard. I would worry more about condition and mileage.

If I could have only one truck, I'd take a built 80.

With a 40, and then wanting a camping expedition type of truck, I'd take the 100. (I say that only because I did that of course)

The 100 is VERY nice to drive on pavement compared to an 80 and like Andy said, they are very different rides.

The 80 can be lifted higher than a 100, can be easily had with stock F/R lockers and has solid front so it's is going to go places a 100 can't, but I can't imagine trying to take my 100 to any of those places anyway. It will go though. I've been VERY impressed with it's off-raod capabilities so far... no regrets at all.

They are cheap right now too! Get one before winter and the continuing gas price decline and you'll get some really good prices. Alf's truck was a steal at $9k. I'm sure there are others out there.

Thanks for the advice, I think I am leaning more and more towards the 100 now. I have found several to look at so far. Yes I was just a few weeks late on that one that Alf had and he ended up trading it in :bang:. Oh well if any one knows of a good one let me know. Thanks again for the insight.

If you buy a 100 you want a 2000+ traction control is a much better option both on and off road. Especially if the price is similar (which most are now). I would not spend more than $12K on a 100, but thats just me. I passed on one for $8K with mods b/c I had just bought my 80.

With the prices we were seeing on 80's if mileage isnt an issue for you then you should be able to find a decent one for $5K or so. There is a large price diff in 80s and 100s. Dont forget that 100s have their issues too, so be sure to check them over really well. (manifolds, starters, front pinions, etc.)

Get it now b/f winter when prices go back up. They are starting to rise already. (Spring is the best time to buy one. )
