Hey guys, I've been talking with a local spot that has some trails which are suitable for doing a trail run on. From their description it's about 3.5 miles, with some technical bits, and one tricky creekbed and is apparently pretty tough, especially if its been raining.

But here's the problem, while legal, it's a pay-to-play location and it's kinda pricey. I was quoted $50/vehicle for the day. I think this is a bit high, but i'd like everyone else's input before i go back and say, hey we'll do it for $35 or something.

This place is reasonable close (about 50 miles from Monroeville) and very easy to get to. And we could pretty much have it when ever we wanted.

Let me know guys.

Thanks!

Manfred, thanks for exploring this for us.

I'd prefer to see $0/vehicle (of course), but barring that I would say $20-30/day seems more reasonable, with $35 edging toward my upper limit... UNLESS it's some insanely fun terrain... can they provide any pictures or point us toward some from previous groups that have gone?

Otherwise I'd point out to them that sounds like pretty limited trails for that kinda loot, and ask how else they might justify that asking price.

I could see us doing runs there frequently if it's fun and not outrageously priced; otoh... I'd probably give a shot once for more $, just to see what it's like.

Guys: let's post up here to get Manfred some feedback to take back to them in terms of number of vehicles that would come play and how frequently at what price. Thanks!

50$ is a little high.
I also have been conversing with a member of WESCO.
there charge is 5$ a person for all day and I think they have 400 acres.
But anyway where is this trail that you are speaking of?
Is it 50 miles east, west ?

participant admission = $45
20 + entries = $40

2-4 hours worth of guided trail rides. Also exploring "club" or "yearly" memberships.

The program is being revamped. So far I've had Jeep and Land Rover... but, I'd really love to have (Toyota) LandCruiser, FJ, etc.

Any questions, PM or email me. (c.huff @ beaverun dot com)

I also run our Auto X and Rally X programs if anyone is interested. You get a hell of a lot more than 5 min. of seat time at our events. Most members get anywhere from 10 to 20+ runs. :D

I did find this page on your site, but there's not many pix there & I dunno if it's up to date.

I would like to know a bit more about what we'd be getting for our $... ideally, I would like a bunch more pix (being worth a thousand words and all)... specifically of the more difficult sections.

Is it still just 2 miles of trails? Do they mostly look like what's in the pictures, or is there more?!? Frankly, I'll expect a lot for $45 (based on what i've paid for Paragon and Rausch Creek vs. the experiences they provide).

Once I/we see what's what, we could explore the "club" membership option. Also, if it's a fun spot that we feel is worth the a$k, we would happily organize a larger Land Cruiser event there (i.e., more than just our club), conceivably annually.

Thanks in advance! -Ed '70FJ40

Dose that include the 6 hour drive and the hotel room?
An hour drive sounds better than 6 but the trails that are shown on the link you gave do look week.
C'mon if a Volvo and a M class can do it my Subaru will and I am not ready to an hour, pay 45$ dollars, and do trails that do not challenge.
just my 0.02.

It's not quite that far (just ~4-4.5 IIRC), and i camp... but point taken. (Also Paragon is no more, so really only RC is relevant i suppose.)

I don't mind the drive since i can tow comfortably, but towing that distance makes gas $ a factor in how frequently i can (should?!) go out there. OTOH the experience out there is entirely different: with the Cruiser community events, and also in both the scope and level of trails...

That's what justifies the overall cost more for me.

I'd be happy to have a place where where more members of our club will be willing to go... so I really do hope it turns out there is more to Beaverun than I'm seeing. I would likely go occasionally for the club even if it's not quite what i'd hope for (challenge or $-wise), but i'm hoping it's more... cuz then i'll be there a lot!

Hi Ed,

Thanks for the questions.

The page you linked contains pictures from a few years back. There is certainly a lot more now. Please keep in mind that this is a work in progress. The possibilities remain up to the client/clubs needs.

We've done a variety of training in the Off-Road area over the years. From trail rides, Jeep, Land Rover, & Hummer Clubs, to FBI, US DoD and CIA private training. Mostly the course consists of dirt trails with elevation change, a creek bed and some steps. The level of challenge right now is moderate to low. There are more trails and "challenge areas" in the works.

Unfortunately I do not have any current pics on hand. I have a video being produced at the moment. I have no idea how many miles of trails. I'd guess 3-5 miles. I am currently having it mapped & printed via GPS. The only trail map I have now belongs to one of the clubs.

You are more than welcome to come out and I'll give you a full tour. That goes for anyone. :)

Larger clubs are often given discounts. We are currently hosting semi-annual Off-Road days for several makers for next season. We would love to have the opportunity to serve a new client.

Bring your Subaru to our Rally events instead. :)

I can say with certainty that there aren't very many M class or Volvo currently on the trails that I'm offering you.. :) We have several trails here throughout the woods. Not to mention the clearing & timbering of our South Track creates more each quarter.

While some are smooth, flat and rally friendly... the remainder are not. The cars you see in the pictures are "corporate clients" & clubs who just want to get their tires dirty. We have to be able to serve a variety of client. Not just cater to one specifically. BeaveRun is a full motor sports facility.

Best Regards,
Chris

I am a Toyota owner & driver. There is nothing I want more than another Toyota club to enjoy our facility.

Allow me the opportunity to work with your club and I'll do whatever it takes to keep you here.

I'm sure you'll see the possibilities are here to create an open and fun environment for both club level events and challenge days.

Best Regards,
Chris

Thank you for clearing that up.
Did not meen to sound s***ty.
Might just take you up on the rally side of the park!
Could you send me some info on that?
Thanks
Paul

Chris, thanks for the response(s).

I'll definitely come out to see your trails sometime. I (and at least two others in our club) have autoX'd out there before. Oh... and btw I'd like to know more about those rally events. I didn't know you had those there. I will have to check those out!

Also, I see you're a local Cruiser owner... you should join us at our club meeting next week! Cmon all the cool kids are doin it! ;) If you're interested, I'll get you directions.

nah, you didn't sound ****ty at all. :) I can appreciate your side of the conversation. I agree the current pics don't do any justice to the quality of the course. I'm getting them updated with trail maps asap.

Good to hear about your interest. I'd be happy to spend time with you and your guests.

Really cool to hear some of you have been out to our Auto X events. I'm adding more for next season. Love to have you back out!

The Rally part of the program is also being revamped from the ground up. I operated our rally school some 3 years ago here @ BeaveRun.

While continuing to teach motorsports for next year, I intended on the growth of our Auto X and Vehicle Dynamics School. As well as a very strong push for the Dirt side of things. (Off-Road & Rally)

I plan at this time to combine the Off-Road and Rally into one "Dirt" day. So, you will be able to enjoy all things dirt in one place on the same day. :)

RE: Land Cruiser meet.. I'd love to come to meetings & events. I just picked up an '08 FJ to go along side my old beast. (80 series)

watch how hard you winch the FJ. seen some wierd pics of subframe tears.

bring the 80. :D

Thanks for the heads up. ;)

Sadly, the 80 is getting the dreaded PHH replaced... :frown:

And... thanks for the heads up!

I'm doing my best to get the facility dirty! :D
