Possible boooogerd rear end?? (1 Viewer)

Al,

Get a tape measure and measure the circumference of you two rear tires. If the circumference differs by more than 3/8" then the tires are out of spec for the Aussie Locker.

I'm not sure what this means in straight line travel but it would be interesting to know when the weird ping occurs. If you are going straight and coming off the gas the rear locker might ratchet because of the difference in tire circumference.

If they are out more than 3/8" would it be possible to put a matching circumference set of tires on the rear for trial and error ?

Cheers,
Cahil

P.S. In theory the locker transforms the axles into torsion bars. On pavelment I've had some fairly loud 'pops' from back there mostly when coming to a quick stop on a slight curve then accelerating straight. Weird but almost reproduceable.

It does sound like the locker is getting worn..

However, the pbrake on a 60 is part of the rear braking system. If it can hold one side but not the other you might have an issue with your rear brakes.

Ass is up in the air already. pull a tire off and look at the brakes on the side that did nto lock up well.

This is assuming that you have the stock rear drums on there.....

LowTideRide, if you need some assistance after you open the diff let us know by either calling us at 585-723-1489 or dropping us an email at engineering@offroadlockers.com. We will get a tech specialist on the phone with you once you had identified the issue if it is the locker.

On my stock (non-locked) 60, i get a ping as well, but no ringing so it's more like a "pink," like a screwdriver tapped on the drive shaft. It happens when I change direction. For example, backing out of a parking space...start letting out the clutch in reverse *pink* then again when I transition from reverse to forward *pink*. my assumption was a sticky ujoint that sticks a little then unloads all of a sudden. i've been driving it more for the last 3k miles...not that i advise following my example.

long story short, no one mentioned ujoint yet, might check that.

I think you might be onto something. well torn into the 3rd and saw nothing wrong...it still could be a boat load worth of crap but i think it might be the u-joint since the drive shaft is new since i kinda blew up the last one. I'll but new gears and bearings in the rear end and see if that fixes it, because i have to do it anyway, and if that doesnt work i'll change the u-joint, ya know easy stuff first ;)

I have the same problem, it's only when i shift first gear or reverse. also it happens when i'm running second gear and i'm accelerating and then i let go the gas pedal.

please 'll like to see some opinions. thank's to yall .

and also i've been driving with this noise about 5000 kms

Hey lowride can your rig stop now? I remember in the parking lot on the way to GSMTR it your e brake didn't work at all practically. That might be something to fix and keep in mind when wheelin. Unless brakes aren't important for you which is cool too.
