Been talking with a local friend, he wants a frame off restoration, 12ht h55 diesel conversion.

Thinking along the lines of finding some BJ42 dual battery trays, air intake, minitruck power steering box, mini truck parts to convert front axle or get a FJ40 front disc axle.

My question is there a better place to mount the gass tank?

Rob

I have thought long and hard about a different gas set up on my 45. The tank as it is is OK but I would like more fuel capacity. With a diesel you may not need additional fuel as you will probably get at least 600km per tank.

The problem with an under bed tank is access. You will need to put a filler on the bed side. I have looked at a number of domestic plastic type tanks and think a long one from a Ford or Chev will fit inside the frame rails.

I'll be looking forward to this build if it goes.

If you are looking for increased capacity, ManaFre carries a 20+ gallon incab tank that goes underneath both seats. I'm seriously considering getting one, but I'd like to get a rear bumper/tire carrier combo for my 45 first.

I was thinking something outside the cab, behind the cab under the box.

Maybe turn the filler neck and cut a hole out the back of the cab and into a tank running along the drive shaft.

Ziggys idea at the rear would also work, it would mount where the spare tire would mount.

If you go with a rear mounted tank where the spare fits, I always thought it would be pretty cool to run the filler neck up through the back of the rear valance. Then use one of those 70s/80s license plate holders which you flip down to find the filler. That way it would be hidden and have a plate holder.

Only down fall is the rear crossmember and maybe the angle of the filler neck.

Now that sounds cool.

Where do I put the spare tho?
