I'm kinda nervous about this, gearing up for my first Rubithon, and I've never had to worry about literally packing out my own crap.
I've read a bit out the P.E.T. ,buckets, etc in various threads, but with 2 small girls (not going to Rubicon though), this might make more sense for future trips?

Thetford 'Campa-Potti' Portable Toilet : Sears Canada

I read some reviews on the Coleman version, not recommended by a large margin (leaks! ewwww!)

We used to have one of those in a houseboat my dad and I built. It worked great. I know, however, once it is full you do not want to be hauling it around very much because the blue stuff and the other brown and yellow stuff will leak.

This is what I use these days for the Mrs. and myself... no bag, shovel, a nice hole and a great seat!!! Utopia!!!

ps. It looks really good on the roof rack!! I always pack it on a way that is visible to the public. The great throne!!!

A bit expensive but worth the expence for family camping my vote goes 100% for the PETT! We bought our solely for use on Rubithon last year and boy have my wife and girls loved it for every trip we've been on since. We camp quite often and the family really does appreciate not having to use a cat hole and I like that it is all contained in an easy to tote out package. Having to wheel with a bucked full of feces and urin does not appeal to me :grinpimp:

Great point...forgot about that "wheelin' thing....lol:doh:

Corey has a great write-up about the PETT

X2 on the PETT system. Used ours for the 'con and other trips. Very handy and packable.

I have a "luggable-loo", but bought a PETT recently for an upcoming trip.
I've had no issues with the luggable-loo, which is basically a 5-gallon bucket fitted with a toilet seat, but I could see potential issues with the wife and girls.

The PETT is an excellent option. Much better than the one you've listed and about 20 dollars cheaper.

Well you have to wheel with bags of it with the other system though.

I'm pretty sure the PETT absorbs by some God only knows what chemical, and causes the waste to be solidified to some degree

P.S. I think it also turns the poop to seven different flavored gummi-bears:hillbilly:

dunno about the gummi-bears, but here's some info about the goo they use in the PETT WAG bags...

PETT Site said:
The WAG BAG Toilet in a Bag waste kit is a biodegradable double bag system made from puncture resistant materials.

Each waste kit includes a zip close disposal/transport bag, a waste collection bag preloaded wiith Poo Powder waste treatment, toilet paper and a hand sanitizer.

Our non-toxic Poo Powder waste treatment treats up to 32 ounces of liquid and solid waste allowing for multiple use. It turns liquid waste to a solid for hygenic and spillproof transport. The Poo Powder waste treatment controls odors and contains a decay catalyst that breaks down solid waste.

The WAG BAG Toilet in a Bag waste kits are biodegradable and approved for landfill disposal. Designed to be used with ThePETT toilet, they may be used by themselves, in a standard toilet, or an RV or camping toilet. Simply remove all liquids and chemicals from the toilet prior to use.

Yes the bags are very sturdy and do turn fluid and solid into a ... gel'ish... But the bag you use can be wrapped up and tied and there is also a zip top bag that the first bag goes into. The other benefit is that it is bi degradable and can be placed in the nearest waste recepticle...poor local fuel depot :)

We live in the Iraqi Army barracks and we use the PETT system and WAG bags to save the headache of future plumbing problems caused by toilet paper. The PETT WAG bag system is very easy and simple yet durable. When we are done doing our busniess, we just just zip up the WAG bags and throw them in a 55 gallon trash can. Odors from the WAG bag filled trash can do escape but I guess that can be expected.

The only thing I would like better about the stool is if had a 4 leg version option. Do they have those? Never a good thing using a 3 leg stool and have to reach for the TP and fall over while doing the business.

I have no clue if the WAG bag gell granules work or not but they are there.

That almost happened to me last year, but I caught myself.
Would have been embarrassing I had knocked the PETT shelter over.
Just DON'T purchase the portable tent that is offered with it. The Cabela's Shower Shelter version is a much better alternative.

Cabela's Shower Shelter
Yep, I do not like it.
Mine bowed over in the wind, and the guy ropes are to slippery, and they slip on the two holed thingymabobber that you cinch the rope with.

I have that Cabelas shower tent for this coming season, but I have to tried setting it up yet.

I agree that the tent is...sub par...to put it nicely. Oh and it's great fun to fire your air soft from up on the hill down under the tent when your buddy is doing his buisness. :grinpimp:

I mean so I've heard because I would never do such a thing to my best friend...

Don't know if you can dig holes on the Rubithon thing, but we use a bio toilet with bio bags. Dig your hole , throw your business in, and it decomposes, no problem.

I have a family of 6, and everyone uses the bio toilet.

No unfortunately no "cat holes" are permited on Rubithon.
