Ok, so how does everyone go about rehabbing previous owner "efforts" within their new vehicles?

I know it's extremely subjective, but at this point, most 60s have been through several sets of hands, all "upgrading" as they see fit. For example, I am the 8th owner of my HJ61 and It shows. Just curious what other peoples' processes are to make a new acquisition their own.

What I really am having trouble with is electrics. There are splices and wires and empty connectors and disconnects everywhere and I can't seem to make sense of them. There are also cuts in the metal dash where switches and who knows once were, but all are empty holes now, meaning, many many possible live wires ending nowhere, somewhere. Yes I have the harness diagram, but you need to have a PhD in electrical engineering to understand it very well. What is the general process you usually do?

Yeah, my BJ60 has had very few mods to it. Just some rust... On one hand future people will want it as unmodified as possible, but I'd also like to do some thoughtful mods that take it away from stock. A stock BJ60 has performance limitations.

For mine the wiring is super simple and I'm going to try to remove / disable as much as I can.

Digging in, does anyone know what the open 2 yellowed and one blue plug are supposed to go to? One of the others in here was unhooked but I mated it with its mate (reunited and feels so good is my background music). Curious as to whether they are empty because I didn't get the features or bc PO forgot to hook them to something. That solo red wire is mystery wire...isn't hooked to anything in the engine bay, other end is somewhere in the dash....probably radio though.

Context, my radio and blower aren't working...at all. Trying to track what's going on before a full teardown of dash.

Funny enough, the clock is now always on. It used to shut of when I turned off power, now it stays on when the car is off (just from me digging around, not due to plugging in anything else, just weird unless it's a red flag)

the blue clamshell splice is not factory, I think. All the others look factory. You can download a copy of the body and chassis manual with the wiring diagram from the Resources tab on IH8MUD. The wire colors and number of wires will help identify what each connector is for. From my experience there will be connectors for items that were never installed from the factory for your vehicle: inclinometer, power antenna, rear fog lights, AC (?), etc. At least in the US it is not unusual to have a few unconnected connectors behind the dash...good luck.
