hi all im new to the site and needing help with my 2lte surf

when its cold and i start it it chugges and chuggs and will stall unless you rev it until it stops chuging (a quick rev to 3000rm will do it) snd then it idles but with a massive miss fire and if you stand about 20 metres from the truck you cant see it at all its all black what could be the issue ??

i have just put brand new glow plugs in and it starts easy but still a massive misfire and huge amount of smoke when its warm its fine i have put a whole bottle of morreys injector clean in but its still the same its been like this since someone played with my spill control valve they changed it like 2-3 turns with a screw driver i think and i want to know what the correct setting is ie if i wind it all the way(up) how many turns down until its correct

cheers, jack

First thing to do is fix your spill control valve. Be very aware that if you rev your engine up high it could go into runaway if the spill valve is adjusted too much. Usually they can only go in about one turn before you get run away (I've done it, so I know).

Counter clockwise is less fuel, clockwise is more fuel. Basically back it out until your over fueling problem (smoke) goes away, and the power feels stock. Maybe do three or four turns out to start with, and then slowly bring the screw back in. The engine will be ultra gutless at first.

You have to loosen the lock nut first before turning the adjust screw. Tighten the lock nut when you're finished obviously.

Here is a picture of the screw (don't turn in however, turn it OUT!)

It's different for every pump. It's set at the factory or at an injection shop during rebuild. You could pull your pump out, send it to an injection shop and have it re-calibrated. Or you can play with the screw on the truck and save yourself the hassle/expense.
