Hello Mudders - I have a 1980 BJ40 from Costa Rica that needs some parts and I cannot definitively say if I have a B or a 3B!

The confusion comes from all this:

The block is stamped with: 11411-56020 and there is a big B stamped on the block. I've looked everywhere any other markings and could not find any.

The timing gear cover is stamped with: 11322-56020 and the timing cover fits perfectly to the engine and all the accessories (wasn't forced to fit).

The engine has a linear fuel injection pump and an oil cooler. Also the vacuum pump is off the alternator.

Engine serial number from the VIN Plate is: 321254

For years I thought this was a regular old B engine from late 79/early 80's. BUT, when cross-referencing the timing cover, it seems that the 56020 part only fits 3B.

I guess the big question is can the 11322-56020 timing cover fit a regular B and a 3B?

Any help appreciated!

I'm running a 3B outer timing cover and power steering pump on a 15B-T with a 14B-T intake, clutch and flywheel and a 14B crank pulley... You can mix and match parts on these engines but as stated above, the block casting is definitive. You have a B engine.
