Yesterday and today I took the family out to play in the snow. Yesterday we tried West Harrison FSR and turned around near the top of the road before it dropped down on the Harrison Lake side. The snow was very slushy and heavy. We were running alone and I had no winch. On top of that, I have never been on this road so had no idea what the grades were like on the other side for me to come out. We went back and took the Weaver Lake road in search of some place to slide. Not to far from the top we found a Ram Charger which couldn't make it any further. I managed to get around it and at the summit we met up with a Jeep (locked I believe). He warned us not to try going into Weaver if we wanted out. He had decided against it. A nice Hilux Surf which was chained up was also parked at the summit. A few minutes later, the owners of the Surf and the Ram Charger came along with their dogs. They had walked down to Weaver Lake and also advised against going down. We made a sliding run in the cut block access road and later roasted up some hot dogs and marshmelows. Got out just in time to catch the Skier rush hour back to Mission on #7 driving at 60 kms/hr. Ya, it was slightly snowing.

We went up Sumas Mountian this afternoon. I had hoped to make the Radio Tower at the Summit. The stolen Dodge was still there just below the second gate. I had recovered a double cab GMC 4x4 stuck in the snow up there on Boxing Day. Some :censor: with a Tacoma decided to park right on the road beofre the Dodge rather than backing down to a pull-out. I had a good look as it appeared some vehicles were getting around him. But I think they were Zuks. I backed down to the pull out and turned around. If I had a recovery strap, I might have been tempted to pull the Tacoma off the road.

We went down to the cedar grove where the kids had planned to slide on the road. We had just gotten the Crazy Carpets out and a young guy and his girl came bombing along in a Subaru and promptly high centered themselves. When his buddy in the 4x4 with a winch never showed up, he asked me to give him a tug. (I really need to get a proper recovery strap if I keep going up Sumas Mtn.) I got him out and along came his buddy, two Zuks and a whole bunch of ATVs. So we went down further to a place where the local Mountain Bikers had built an elevated trail in the trees called "Logger Rythm". The area had been recently logged and Logger Rythm fell to the saws. We found our hill and I followed the snow mobile track to the bottom. It is a perfect hill for kids to slide on - fast.:) Was a bit worried about climbing out but didn't spin a wheel in 2nd gear low range.

Truck performed very nicely in the deep fresh snow. I could push through snow about 3' deep with no problems. The only places were the wheels started to spin is where the guys had tried to get through on hp and dug big holes.

I am planning to go out again with the family on New Years Day. If anyone is interested, company is welcome. Maybe tomorrow I'll head into Langley and pick-up a recovery strap.;)

I haven't yet decided where to Scott. As for when, I don't plan on leaving Abby before 11:00 AM. My whole crew - 3 kids, wife and dog - will be along and the intent is to wheel a bit and also spend some time for the kids to do some sliding. Would you be bringing kids?

I was considering going back to Harrison West FSR if the temps drop down. Also, I was thinking about heading up the Chilliwack Valley towards Chipmunk.

What do you have for snow wheeling (treads - chains)?

I will consult with the boss as to location and post up later.

There's a LOT more snow than last year, and probably trees down. Last year I got into Sloquet at around this time (from the Pemberton end). This year fuggedaboutit. Talked to some guys who skied into Sloquet and they said the snow was real deep and a good number of trees down. Someone had tried to go in with chains and given up only a short way in from the main. So W Harrison FSR may be pretty dicey.
