Hi guys, new to me truck, first 200, with new sounds.
My search Kung Fu needs practice, all I found was similar noises above the truck.

On the interstate last night with strong winds, I heard occasional noises that I would imagine what a plastic bag stuck under the truck would sound like. Sounds like under driver. When I got home, I gave it a cursory look, no signs of a plastic bag. The skid plate seems secure. The wind deflectors in front of the front wheels doesn't seem as rock solid.

Thoughts?
Tia!

While I haven't had the problem on a LC, my 4runner made a similar sound when a heat shield was loose above the cat. Check the heat shields above the cat and muffler.

Does it make it while idling or just while driving? A water pump that is going bad sounds a little like that too. How many miles are on your rig? What is the condition of your CV joints? Maybe an input shaft bearing or wheel bearing. Bad bearings can make similar flapping noise.

Thanks guys.
It was just at Atlanta interstate speed, the posted limit might be 70.
It was very high wind too. The sound was intermittent.

From that further description, I'm going to guess door seals. When a strong wind is blowing sideways across the vehicle while running at Interstate speeds, the wind can force its way through a seal and make the sound you are describing. In your case, perhaps the bottom door seal on the DS. Make sure those are all snapped securely into place.

No fender flares.
Overall seals look good to me, all appears to be snapped in properly.
This curve on all four doors look like this:
Is this ok, or does it need attention?

On the 100, the LX had a few extra seals, are there additional seals I could add from an lx?

On my truck, the seal on the door fits tightly to the curve, unlike on yours where there appears to be gaps between the seal and the door. I don’t know if that makes a difference?

I think that seal is NOT OK. Here's mine (2013LC DS front door):

Comparing yours with mine, it looks to me like your door seal was replaced at some point in the past and not fit very well. Any history of an accident that involved your DS door?

In any event, I'd investigate properly fitting your door seal before investigating possible alternative seals (e.g. those used on the LX).

it's the rubber windshield molding and is most likely 6-8 inches up from the bottom...on either side. The rubber is soft and in extreme wind, vibrates like an SOB...listened to it for nearly two hours coming back from Texas...finally got out and figured it out....turned to go WITH the wind and it disappeared. Cross winds are the worst.

Thanks guys, I'm going to figure out how to get the door seals on that curve to hug better.

My windshield moulding doesn't look fantastic, could that be a contributor? I originally didn't think so because the I think the noise is below. I've not messed around with it before, what am I in store for? Can I throw some tape on there and see if it makes a difference?

mine looks great and it's the culprit...drove my wife nuts...me too except that I'm going to figure out a way to make it stop.

Wind does BAD things to these cars. I'm convinced they don't have a wind tunnel in Japan. ;)

Heh... Ya, but if that goofy little extra piece in front of the front tires that extends down maybe 2@x2” square is any indication...only a wind tunnel could lead to such a tiny tweak.

On the other side of the argument...it seems to me that wind noise from such a small seal flaw means the wind is contoured TIGHTLY to the vehicle. If I’m not mistaken, that would indicate a surprisingly good wind contour...rather than large spots of swirling air that happens in poorly designed aerodynamics. So maybe this is actually a sign that when intact...they’ve done a more careful air control setup than we think. :meh:

Bumpers and etc have a dramatic effect on MPG whether heavy or light. So I think they did pretty well for such a massive blob driving down the road...

don't disagree...but man, my mileage in wind blows...pun intended.
