Gents,
I'm trying to get the pitman arm off a Toy truck 2wd powersteering box so I can put it on an Fj80 box.

AFAIK, I'm doing everything right...... Gear Wrench pitman puller, 4lb hammer, breaker bar, lots of penetrating fluid and a propane torch.

I began by soaking the spline in Moovit for a day and over night. Then I tried multiple times to remove it with first heat and the puller. Yep, that puller was cranked tight with the breaker bar. I also kept whacking the 19mm impact socket I had over the puller bolt, hard and many whacks. Nadda. More heat, more whacks, tighten the puller a tad more, still nada......repeat.

I left the puller on overnight, more movvit.......this am, still nadda. WTF?
I tried more of the same for an hour today.

Anyone have any suggestions please?

Thanks.

Although it doesn't seem to be budging, on a molecular scale it is. Once you crank the puller on it as hard as you can get it, soak it in Kroil. Check the tension every day and give it a few whacks with a hammer. Always keep it wet with penetrant. Don't let it dry out.

Over time, chances are it'll pop off one day.

What locked 79 said works. You can isolate heat better too! Get the arm hot without heat soaking the sector shaft and subsequent parts.

It's off! What a stubborn bugger, but not as stubborn as I am!

I decided to have another go at it, this time I used a piece of steel to lay the pitman across and smacked the other side of the pitman with a 4lb hammer 10 times or so, then it was back to applying the moovit, the puller, and using a steel punch to hit the exposed areas of the pitman shoulder down. Repeating this process over the next 1.5 hrs and it came loose, real nice and slowly, with no sudden "pop".

Then I had a go at the FJ60 box. That pitman came off within 10 minutes using the same technique. That one was a pleasure to remove compared to the 2wd one!
