Hello all. I figured I'd gauge interest on doing Pismo this coming November. Last year we avoided the Veteran's Day crowd, and by default the official Turf & Surf organized by the Central Coast Cruisers, by going the week prior to Veteran's Day. Incidentally, the event was traditionally held the first weekend in November probably for this reason. Veteran's day is typically a zoo as it usually backs up to Thanksgiving weekend meaning the beach "sells out" for about 2 solid weeks as many plant 2 week roots on the beach. It's a bit more of a madhouse than most of us are probably up for.
This year, however, things could be different. Veteran's day is Monday the 11th while Thanksgiving is the 28 separating the 2 dates by a 2 weekends instead of 1. I suspect there is much less of a chance of the beach being so packed since most people will opt to go Thanksgiving week and take advantage of 2 paid days off. I also suspect the official Turf & Surf will be held on Veteran's day vs. the traditional first week of November because that crew likes to take advantage of the Monday off. Taking advantage of Veteran's day could mean that we get to take part in the T&S which is always fun. If one takes Friday off you have a 4 day weekend for the price of one vacation day from work. If the beach is crowded, we always have the option of camping well south of the last pole (6) which is vacant even when the beach sells out.
All of that said, the first week of November will give us most of the beach to ourselves. I can support going either weekend.
