So for the last couple of years my rear end has had a clunk in it. I figure it is a pinion bearing on it's way out and finally today I pulled the rear end out and want to replace the bearings. the outer bearing came off really easy but the inner (larger) bearing will not come off the shaft.

I broke the cage off and have the pinion shaft in the freezer right now. I have been banging on it with a chisel for a while and the race will not budge.

Are there any tricks? I do have a welder and plan to put a bead around the race tomorrow.

It is a full floating rear end btw.

Thanks for piping up Purple.

I took the shaft out of the freezer the next morning and ran a bead of weld around the race. With some strategic hammering the inner race came off nicely. I installed the new bearing without issue and now have the rearend back in the truck.
