Hey guys,

1) Does anyone know where to get a gas tank sending unit for the stock '72 FJ55 tank?

2) And what about a replacement choke cable?

SOR only has used sending units for $30 and does not appear to have any cables available for my year. Piggy parts are getting hard to find!

3) Also, I just replaced my speedo cable. The old one started making a rattling / spinning noise whenever I got over 40 mph, and the speedo needle would spin 360 degrees (until it fell out and to the bottom of the gauge) , odometer still worked though. Anyway, I replaced the cable and the noise is less, but still there, again the needle is still out (don't know how to fix that) and the odometer does work. Strange problem, any ideas?

So you can see what I'm getting at... fuel gauge stopped working and partial working speedo - no real way to know how much fuel I've burned unless I leave the getto sounding cable plugged in to run the odometer and measure from every fill up. HELP PIGGY BRETHREN!

Anyway, I just finished a header install and 3" lift w/ 33's. She's lookin' good. I'll post some pics later on. Now I just need to figure out these little pesky problems. Any help would be very appreciated.

I might have a spare choke cable. No need of a choke on my diesel. If you can't find it PM me and I'll check my piggy parts stash.

Piggy owners are probably your best source for parts.

Are you kidding Cruiser_guy? I can't get a single one of you guys to pry loose a Piggy part. You guys grab those things up and cirmudgin them into a corner. Hey Dude, if Cruiser_guy can't find a choke cable I have an extra laying around. It sounds as though your speedo problem lies within your speed display. If the odometer works then reduction gearing to speedometer is a safe bet as the source of your malfunction. I think Spector makes a replacement for the whole unit. At least someone does.

I've got an extra early pig speedo(meter):grinpimp:.....if you require one.....nice n shiny too......

Hey, if we don't snag them when they are available they end up gone forever. I got all the light lenses for our truck about 3 days before they would have been gone forever! The local guy who has lots of 'Cruiser parts had tossed all of them in the trash and I had to go "binning" to rescue them!! His excuse was there was no call for them any more.

By the responses there are others who are willing to part with piggy parts from their stash.

Piggy Q's

Hey guys,

I've sent back some PM's. Thanks a lot for all your help. Hopefully I can get some of those parts and make some working gauges again. Does anyone ever try to replace the stock gauge cluster with all aftermarket setups on the 55? Or is that only when doing a non-toyota conversion?

Choke cables for that year are really hard to find, so if someone has one for you, grab it.

Is it different from say a '76? All I'd have would be either a '76 or a '75, nothing earlier.

Yes, I think it's different. I believe they changed it in 1975.

What 3" lift did you install? Also, do you have the original choke cable or what's left of it? I may have a solution for you ;)

Hey Brian,

Yeah the original cable's still there, but it is very stiff. What you got? I installed SOR 2.5" extended shackles up front and 3" shackles in the rear. I did the 4.0 degree caster shims in the front to correct steering geometry and I replaced bushings, shocks, pins, u-bolts, etc. Basically, I couldn't find a reasonably priced spring kit, so I kept my stock springs and built around them. I love the rig. Mild to moderate trail riding and I know the shackles could hang up on some stuff, but I'm very happy with the look. I was able to put on 15x8 white spokes with 33x12.50x15 BFG KO's. Looks and rides soooo much better. My silver star has expired and I haven't gotten the chance to rejoin. If I email you some pics of the truck could you post them here? Either way I'll send you some shots if you give me your address! Cheers,

Stuart

Here's pic's of my surplus choke cable. I don't know if it's supposed to have a formed end or not but this is what it looks like.

Ok. What I did was pull the choke cable out w/ knob on, cut off the cable, stick the knob assembly in a lathe, drill a hole out, then took it to the welding lab where they welded on a wire to it. Took 45 minutes including a coffee break, and it works like brand new. For the price of the replacement wire (dirt cheap) and shipping back to you I'd be happy to fix it for you. How long does it need to be, I don't seem to recall. I can make it as long as you want, and you can trim off the excess when you reinstall it. Sound like a fair deal?
