Tim,

Looks good man. Good to see you got it all on. No more bumperless driving.

Ok, for the GPS and Laptop questions. First I see that you live in NC. I moved to Oregon from Wilmington NC a year or so ago and let me tell you you need it out here! I do lots of exploring for lookout towers, Mines, old Logging railroads and all sorts of things. You may be in trouble out in the middle of nowhere and wondering which way you have to turn to get back when your a hundred miles from the nearest gas station. I run Ozieplorer on the computer with Delorme topo and I have Topo!! too. I have all the GIS Aerial photos loaded in and DEM with 3d. I can download GIS info from the National Geodetic survey site for all Bechmarks that were located at Lookout sites. I can also get the MAS/MILS data from the USGS in GIS for all the mines in the state of Oregon. With GIS I can get waypoints for all rest stops for long trips. I can also get on the Oregon state government site and download shape files that will show me all Private ownership on BLM lands. The list goes on and on. The laptop is a most have for the explorer. I plan on adding a USB GPS in the future elimanate the gps on the A-pillar. Just whating for more money and it works fine now.

Another reason for the laptop is that I can scan in any map and track on it with the GPS. Ozi lets you scan in your own maps. I have scanned Metsker maps of Oregon from the early 1900's so I can find old logging rails and mines. I then can overlay the image on the USGS 7.5 qaud maps and trace were the tracks use to go. And when I am looking to see what is down that trail in front of me I can switch to a Aeriall image or a Sat 7 image and can see what is going on, like does the trail end or keep going.

Nice ride
Who said this when asked, Do you know where we are?
"Give me a week to look around and let you know"

bumper

Is it bolted on or welded on? Also, how long did you have to leave your vehicle with them?

How is the conferr rack working for you? I was thinking about getting one for my rig to hold my hi jack because they are so cheap but I don't know if it's worth it. What size did you get? Oh and nice rig!

It is bolted on. It was the first one that he did so I left it there for about 3 days. After he got done with it he told me he way under quoted me! It took him lots longer than he thought. Good for me but bad for him.

I thought the price was a bit low...

The Conferr is a 4'x5'. I bought it for my jeep cherokee but I sold it and got the cruiser. The rack works great! I thought about selling it and getting one that is 5'x7' but my wife does not want it to cover the sun roof. I have used wood for the floor but over time it warps. I am know looking for some old bread racks that are plastic to cut for the floor.

Damn! So it's not likely that I could show up hoping to get that price huh? Oh well. . . one of these days. . . =/

I like the exhaust guard, where can I get one? and how much?

Great thread including hi-jacks. :D

My two cents...

nice bumper!
rear quarter panel protection is good,
single swing outs are bad for tight spaces,
double swing outs are bad for everyday access.
Don't protect it, cut that POS "siilencer" can off the exhaust (get louder tires if necessary),
laptops with mapping/topp software trump standard GPS when "confused" about which way to go,
I need a laptop mount, which brand/model is that?
A built in on board "carputer" would kick ass, check out MP3Car.com

carry on....
:flipoff2:

Those slide windows in the back are too easy to pry open with a blade or a screwdriver. Your laptop and GPS might not last all that long with those windows. A good alarm might help.

uh....gee what a "positive" post

For the record, a rock through the front window will work faster and easier than a screwdriver through the rear slider...

Those of us in North America don't have a choice when it comes to rear sliding vs non-sliding windows. They all slide.

All except for the Lexus LX 450 -- it only has 3 sliders in the rear (as opposed to the 4 with the LC) -- I guess I'm 25% safer

Curious what brand, or where did you get the laptop mount? Or is it custom made?

I'm not sure what mounts he used, but I like Ram Mounts

I use their GPS mounts and have a lap top mount that I have not installed yet.

There are several different vendors on the 'net.

What do you mean, three sliders?

100 series, these windows open and close electronically. :D
