Good looking Cruiser - as long as you're painting the trim, ditch the flares. Just my $.02 of course.

wow. so you went from 31's to 33's? depending on the actual diameters, it's something like 6-7%. that's somewhere in the neighborhood of 14.3 to 14.4 MPG

yeah, i'm thinking the flares have to go when it goes to all-black.

def ditch the flares, i did on mine and like the cleaner look better. i also went up one size from stock to the revos. excellent tire, i couldnt tell any wear after 15k miles. gave me a little extra road noise, not a big deal for me as i always have the stereo cranked.

well, today's the day... we should have it this evening and drive it back home later tonight. pics to follow tomorrow. :D

Congrats, looks like a good one. Remember that the timing belt water pump change is 6 years "OR" 90K miles and while you are having it done you might as well have the belts changed since they have to take them off when doing the timing belt service. I did my 99 timing belt and water pump service last year and my LC had 58K miles on it and the belt was not going to make it to 90K miles and the water pump was starting to weep. My LC lived its life in AZ where it is really hot and dry so it is harder on rubber items but I would not go beyond Toyota's interval recommendation for the timing belt either time or mileage wise. Plus after you get the service you will have peace of mine for the next 6 years or 90K miles. Good luck.

Good find! Looks awsome. I too will be in the market for one soon, and then the search begins! hehe

bamachem, you run across any white, silver, or riverrock ones lately? im looking to replace my 2000 white one i sold a few months ago. thanks,

jeff

actually, yeah. there's a 01 riverrock (74k miles, looked good when i was driving by it last week) here in knoxville at the nissan dealer - asking about $23k for it...

:D

we're going to be out and about today. if we're anywhere near there, i'll swing in and give it a once-over. they should be closed so i won't have to swat away those pesky sales kids. pulling up in one cruiser and looking at another and they'd be fighting over who'd get to hassle us...

i went by the dealer and didn't see it. one of the managers must have driven it home for the weekend or they sold it. it seemed like a good deal, and it was our backup in case this black one didn't work out for us.

also, on another note... today, i ordered two sets of Polk Audio 6.75" coax speakers for the 4 doors, an Alpine 55Wx4 amp to push them, a Kicker Solobaric 8" L5 (dual 2ohm VC) to go in the factory slot that currently has two little puny 4" subs, and i already have a 150W Alpine mono amp to push it. at least the cruiser will have some good tunes in a week or so... :D

the windows are already tinted - 35% on all including on top of the factory tint, so that's taken care of. i'm pleased w/ the look of the 16's for now and the tires are nearly new, so it will be a while before we switch those out. i also found out that the lower trim piece between the grill and the bumper has to be changed out to swap the grill to a 03+, so i'm in no hurry to do that either.

i did go by the dealer and got some new toyota wiper blades to replace the anco ones the PO put on there. i'm also ordering the little cell phone pocket that goes next to the shift lever later this week when i get a chance.

other than those and swapping out the tunes, i don't think we'll be doing anything else for a while since we're VERY happy with everything else on it...

Awesome.

So you don't think you need to do the timing belt and water pump?

possibly... i'm still on the fence for the 6 year thing on the TB. the reason is that my 99 4Runner has the original 8-year-old belt (built in late 98) that has 152k and counting on it. however, being a non-interference engine, i'm not too worried about it and i'm planning on having it done this summer anyway. the cruiser spent it's first 3 years (only 13k) as a dealer owned vehicle, then it came to middle tennesse where the climate is fairly mild.

i assume the 4.7L is an interference engine???

It's pretty much been figured that it IS an interference engine. I think what I've seen the most is that it is ALMOST a non-interference engine. :D That doesn't really mean much to me. Bent valves are bent valves. We've seen people say it is and isn't interference but Toyota defintely does not come right out and say it is non-interference.

Somebody has to be the first to let the TB go and see when or if it will really fail. I'm willing to let bamachem do the hands on research. Most of the TBs have looked good to fair when replaced at 90k so I think he'll probably be fine. There is an inspection plate that allows you to see the belt.

oh, there is?!?!? on the runner, you have to remove the drive belts and take the cover off. have a pic of the removable plate? i'm sure i can figure it out, but not sitting at my desk...

If your going to check it you've done most of the work and might as well change it. Some people have gone 6-7 years and 150K miles before changing and got it just in time. It's the not knowing that's the problem :) Very expensive if you are wrong. Also if you are going to keep the LC why risk it for another year or so since its a 6 year 90K miles item what does waiting a year or two and 20-30K miles buy you other then a lot of heart burn. But if you are a gambler, go for it and let us know how long it lasts and if it doesn't last what it costs to rebuilt the top of your engine :)
