Alright, we're back from our back country trip.
3 day hiking/camping trip.
I used my samsung note (3200mah) for navigation/gps, pics and video, and some time killer games for the boy.
It ran gps with the trimble gps hunt app the whole time. Otherwise it was on airplane mode.
I left the solar panel at home and brought the Anker 13000mah battery pack instead.
The phone lasted the duration of each day and needed charging at night.
The battery pack has 4 LED lights on the side corresponding to approx charge level.
We made it through our trip and still had 2/4 lights on the batt pack so I think we might have been able to push it a couple more days if necessary.
The bottom line is that I think the utility to weight ratio of this battery pack makes it definitely worth keeping in my car or backpack.
