OK can someone help me out?

I'm planning to do the Pesky Heater Hose + Heater Control Valve replacement tomorrow. After reading at least 50 different threads (+Slee's instructions, and all the YT videos lol) I have one question though--after I'm ready to refill the coolant do I only refill the radiator and overflow tank, or do I need to try to get coolant back into the block by removing the thermostat or putting fluid into the block from a heater hose? I've never done that before but the logic of "there's no coolant in the engine until the tstat opens and that's bad" does seem to make sense.

I'm not currently planning to do a full flush, the coolant looks quite good and the PO of this truck (it's new to me) had a garage do a full flush 10K miles ago.

Thanks!

I bet you'll need two gallons of coolant (not pre-mixed) and 2 gallons of distilled water. Mix 50/50. You'll have some left over, which is good.

No special bleeding needed, just fill up through the radiator cap hole.

I'd recommend a tool like this, makes filling and bleeding much easier:

Amazon product ASIN B01A2CQSU6
Good luck!

Thanks, sounds good. I ordered one, appreciate the info.

The two hoses, top and bottom of radiator, fill both sides (before and after T-stat) when you fill the radiator.
The t-stat prevents flow between the sides until its operating temp is reached.
