Are there any dog owners that have their pets on phenobarb? Any side effects?

Our lab was on it for years, to control seizures. I think it will slowly poison the liver.

it does they have to liver test while on it, why was it prescribed?

We have a chinchilla that is on phenobarb. It's hard to say if there are any side effects with chins. She seems normal but is a bit thin. Not sure if this a loss of appetite or the fact that her mother hogs all the food.

My mom's setter has been on phenobarbitol for a few years now to help with seizures. She has to be taken in regularly for a liver test and the drugs make her a little lethargic.
