Pelican Case Storage System

More pics. Lots of room for soft sided stuff in front of the case behind the front seats and in back. The cap in front of the Engel refridgerator is for the water bladder sold by Slee. I now can store 10 gallons in that bladder under the platform behind the seat and fill it through the cap. Also the PulPal anchor fits perfectly between the wheel wells and protects the plug and vents on the back of the refrigerator. If you dont have passengers there is no better way to store gear, and the front platform unbolts in minutes so you can put the second row seat back in when you get back.

My Pelican Brother!

Really great set-up! You can tell put a lot to time into your truck and set-up.

Thanks for sharing.

Got the platform in and will sort it out this weekend.

this is an outstanding thread! In your opinion is there any need to reinforce the platform (wood plywood piece) with metal somewhere? Thanks for the inspiration.

You my friend are a genius! Simplistic by design, paramount in performance A+! Look for my replicated half cargo design!

No reinforcment needed. It would be bolted into the frame on existing seat bolt brackets with fender washers on top. Even in a rollover I would have to tear 3 inch hole through 7 ply marine plywood. If that happened by the time the pelican case hit me in the head I would be stopped or dead anyway . All of my tie downs had back plates as well. This is more secore than anything i see on the trail.

The main advantage is that it looks stock when not in use. I never take out my rear platform unless I need third row seat, and the front is only 20 minutes to remove and replace the second row seat.

Mac's VersaTie alternative.

Not trying to hijack this thread just adding to the database! I really like britlrs idea, and even cut out a deck to the exacting dimensions as this final design, but then I discovered these tiedowns and was convinced that it was a good blend between BK's idea and what I needed.

I used the 1-4' VT kit and 1-2' VT kit and secured the tracks to my recently constructed cargo deck finished with herculiner. I wanted the conviences of loading gear in any arrangement necessary and the peace of mind of a secure, uncompromised, cargo load. I tried to keep all my gear in 2- pelican 1610 cases, which have wheels and easily slide in and out of the rig. Removing the second rows offers over 72" of comfort once a second deck is added. Overall, I am really happy with the end results. As it has been said- "Only One Way, Not The Only Way".....

That looks fantastic! I really like the liner you put on it, it'll help stop the cases from sliding. The VT's are also great, I use the individual ones to secure the platform to the floor in case of an accident/rollover.

Goodluck and great work!

Howdy...nice and simple indeed. What's the red grill looking thing over the small propane tank?

It's a metal guard. I fabbed it up out of 1/2 in. steel and bolted it to the collar shield on the tank. I added it to protect the valve since I was carrying it inside and stuff gets put on top of it and things tend to move around while offroad and I didn't want anything accidentally hitting the valve....I'm a little skittish about propane after having a bad experience with knocked open propane valve in a truck camper and didn't want to repeat it.

If you happen to make more I'd buy a few from you. Although it didn't happen to me it did happen to someone at my campsite at Sequoia...valve knocked open and really bad "burns" even though it comes out so cold. It looked like a 2nd or 3rd degree burn on the poor guy.

10-4 on propane haphazzardry. If it is not too much trouble, I'd appreciate close-up photo just to stir the juices a bit. Thanks.

I'll think about fabbing more up.

Thanks.

Here ya go. Good luck...

The black velcro strap is for holding the hose.

Caution: My tank was new and empty when I drilled it, please keep this in mind when you drill the collar.

Cool storage system!

For those of us that can't fab or use multiple tanks, a valve lockout device like this might be easier

Might be good keeping someone from opening it, but that wont keep the vavle from poping off in an accident.

Ah, I thought we were talking about the valve be accidentally bumped on, not broken off.

No problem.
