Hi all, haven't had a 100 series in a little while but I purchased a 2000 the other day and am in the process of turning it into my daily driver. I bought it knowing that it has a trans code. The sellers mechanic told him it needed a new transmission but I don't think so. The code is "p0770 solenoid e" it looks like this is a fairly rare code for the 100 series. More common on the 80 series. I know that toyota more commonly refers to this solenoid as the SL solenoid. I can find the part number for the 80 series but am a little unclear as to the proper part number for the 100 series. Has anyone ever replaced this part and what is the correct part number.

You really should download the service manual, before you start spending any money. The solenoids can "fail" in circuit operation for any number of reasons, only one of them is a bad solenoid.

I'd recommend you download the 2000 LX470 manual I posted; it's bookmarked and more easy to use than the 100 series manual. You won't be missing anything because you don't have the "Land Cruiser" service manual. Normally I would recommend the opposite, but in this case, since I use this manual all the time, I can recommend it without reservation.

Make sure you have the correct code; P0770 isn't a A343F diagnostic code for the 2000 A343F:

You'll have to pull the pan in order to check the solenoids, so you need a tube of Three Bond 1281 [08826-00090] and a drain plug gasket [35178-30010], get several. You'll also need transmission fluid. If you don't know if or when the transmission was flushed, I'd recommend you plan on doing that. Drain the pan, remove it, test the solenoids and the pigtail, make any R&R changes necessary, reinstall the pan, and then flush the transmission. Using the cooler lines at the radiator, you will be able to flush the entire system, less the torque converter. The instructions are floating around here somewhere. If you really feel like you have to replace the solenoid, here it is:

Yes, I have the manual. This isn't my first 100 series. P0770 shift solenoid e is the code that I'm getting. There are a couple other instances of people getting it with a 100 series but not many. I have changed the fluid and it's clean. It also runs and shifts perfectly normal. I am heavily considering to let it ride but a CEL drive me nuts. I appreciate your help with the part no. Thanks

Got a bit of an update. I got the old laptop out with techstream on it last night. Techstream showed P0770 but it also came up with P0715. Not sure why my regular code reader wasn't picking up that code if it was getting the other one. Anyway, I'm going to replace the speed sensor today and hope that cures the problem.
