Hi all,

Considering picking up a Pakmule scout to augment trunk space for family trips, and for hauling stuff around town

I’m interested in maintaining maximum tailgate capability. Does anyone have experience with the straight tongue and 4in riser and can compare how it works ? Can you sit on the tailgate in either scenario with the scout loaded ?

Anything else you wish you knew before buying, or other options you went with ?

Thanks!

Not sure if my experience will relate...
In '19 I got the Pacmule model specifically designed for the 200 series (I think they don't make it any more).
Doesn't cause any issues with the Tailgate. Excellent construction - you get what you pay for!
I even fabed up a riser so I can use it on my 80 series.
Happy trails

Check out the stowaway2 enclosed box carrier. It is a beast and allows me to carry a ton of stuff. It has a swing out but the beauty of this model is that it allows you to open the rear lift gate and tailgate without using the swing out function. It can even accommodate 4 golf bags which always surprises my passengers. I have put thousands of miles on mine and recently did a 1700 road trip this winter in extreme weather and it kept everything bone dry. The downside is that it takes up a chunk of space in my garage and is awkward to store but it is definitely one of the best purchases I have made for my LC.

I’ve got the Pakmule Scout with 4” riser. It is a great setup and definitely recommend it. It matches the height of the tailgate well.

Do you have any pictures posted of tailgate with 4in riser ? This is the setup I’m considering but would love to see how it looks in use. Thanks !

I’m out of town but I can take a pic next week.

I bought my rack from them at a show and they let me try out different risers. 4” works best with the tailgate. It functions normally and lines up well with the rack.

I wouldn’t hesitate to get the 4” again.

Hell yeah thanks man. So glad you popped on here last minute. I went ahead and ordered the Scout with 4 inch riser to take advantage of the Memorial Day sale. Looking forward to some adventures

I figured you were. Enjoy it!

If you wanted to swap the riser, I bet a quick phone call to them would get you swapped out. They seemed like real, good dudes.

Here is the Scout with 4” riser @halfmacgas

Thanks, this is exactly what I was looking for and I think probably the best solution for me. I might pick up the straight tongue as an extra if I ever end up using for heavier loads. Really appreciate @RTaylor , @JRHorne and @2014 LEX 570 GA for sharing your experiences with the Scout on various threads / messages!
