great info...i will check out the web site/tapes. Yes, i might not save a bunch but right now it's kind of a jouney vs destination thing so...i'd like to give it a shot (not pun intended).

76 -- help me out with the fog coat. what's the difference between it and the wet coat? Just setting the gun such that it disperses the paint lightly and over a wide area...i assume. Goal being to suspend the metal from this final light coat into the now firmer (it set up for a short while) wet coat?

The wet coat is a heavy "wet" coat of paint a "dry" coat would be if it was applied too thin which gives it a dry look as opposed to a glossy finish.

After you get a good glossy wet coat on the truck and you are satisfied with the coverage. let it flash for a few minutes while you mix some more paint. then go back in and give it a"fog" coat which is a lighter coat of paint shot from a further distance kind of creating a "fog" of paint. this coat is a lighter coat and this is why you need to put some reducer into this mix so that it will cut into the paint and lay down good for you so you dont get an overspray look.

one thing on the wet coat, be careful. if you lay it on too thick the metalic will start to fall and you will have a tiger stripe looking paint job (the fog coat will help this but not fix it completely). If your worried about it just take a piece of sheetmetal and practice the week before so you can get a feel for it.

thanks for the comment on the paint, I just about have it all put back together now, I will get some more pics in a week or 2...

Check out 'Paintucation' - a guy named Kevin Tetz (I think) has assembled a series of videotapes outlining the painting process from start to finish. He advertises in a lot of musclecar publications. The tapes arent all that much. I wish I had watched them before attempting my first (and only) paint job. paintucation.com is the web site I believe. Good luck!

I looked around a little and this guy's video seems to get pretty good reviews so i went ahead and bought the initial one (DVD). Once i get it and watch it a couple times i'll let y'all know what i think.
