Finally got around to posting my step by step grille painting for those who are interested... I think it makes a huge difference on the truck.

Powder coat on the wheels are next (Wednesday, FINALLY).

Before Shot:

Next Steps

1. Removed the grille (easy, 3 screws)
2. Sanded off ALL shine (especially the chrome). If it shines, paint doesn't stick.
3. Sprayed with adhesion promoter (2 coats).
4. Primed (2 coats), after removing the badge and covering exposed area with paper

Next

5. Painted matte black, 4 coats. Probably a bit much, but want it to be durable
6. After shot...much better!

Nothing to this. Took about 2 hours total time, but let the primer harden overnight before i did the finish coat.

I'm most likely going to do the exact same thing as you, even if my grille is slightly different. The only thing I can't get over is that you aren't supporting the crimson tide.

Looks awesome, since you seem to be planning a lot for your truck, time to start a build thread!:D

Great work man. Looks awesome!

Now, I hope it works out better for you than me but, I had issues with road debris chipping away the black. That's why I bedlined it afterwards. I guess that's something to say about northern winters. Looks good

Thanks. Has the bed liner coating held up well? Might do that if mine starts chipping.

maybe gloss black is more durable than matte black rattlecan? Idk, but mine has held up pretty well, no chips from road debris yet

^ I did flat black and mine hasn't held up at all - I need to re-done with something much more durable. Maybe that bedliner stuff would be better?
