My white paint job looks generally dull and yellowed and has some stains and smudges that don't wash off. No chipping or peeling though.

It looks pretty good for it's age, but next to my BMW Alpine White, the LandCruiser looks like dirty white.

Does anyone know a detailer who can restore my paint? I've heard there is something called color sanding but I don't know what that is. Clay and wax are not enough.

Also, can anyone ccomfirm if the Toyota white has a clear coat or not?
Thnks

Yes - you are clear coated. A good clay bar cleaning s/b all you really need. It's a 14 year old truck. Now if you are filthy compared to another white Yota, then you may have room to complain. From what I know, that Alpine White from BMW is a brilliant white compared to facatory fresh white on the Landcruiser, so are you really comparing apples to apples.

Have you tried a good clay, swirl remover then was. May get rid of a little more given the usage you've put the truck thru.

haha, Brent didnt put a ? at the end of the sentence to indicate a rhetorical question.

I agree though. I sometimes park next to a white BMW and the difference is stark. But if I see the cruiser by itself it seems white enough. Though I have been thinking about clay barring the truck for a year or two now. Anyone have a recommendation for clay and amount needed?

I know they are different whites but what I'm getting at is the staining in the paint. Clay does not help. Not sure if anything will so really just wonderng if there are other methods I don't know about.

My 95 LC used to be stained white when I bought it. Went through 1 coat with polisher to remove the top yellow coat then MicroFine to clean the swirl and coat silicone, I used the pro-polisher style like body shop, then top off with 2 coats of Maguiar Teflon wax.

You can buy the 3M polisher and 3M Micro Fine polish at auto paint or let body shop buff it out for you.

Youngster. Have you never heard that? Comparing like items if I have to explain it to the younger generation.

Yep, i've heard of it.. but i use Apples to ORANGES. :D

Hence the reason for me not understanding... how do you compare apples to apples when talking about two different colors? lol

Awe.. nevermind.

Dave, it depends on the context.

You could say,

"Well the paint colors are two different shades so you are not comparing apples to apples"

or you could also say,

"Well the paint colors are two different shades so you are comparing apples to oranges"

Brent's use of the term is correct and the more commonly used of the two old adages. :deadhorse:

This discussion certainly took an interesting fruit based turn. Does anyone know a detailer who can address this for me? I don't have the time.

Contact local body shop? They're the paint expert and they can do detailing.
