I got a code for an oxygen sensor number 2, is that the front 3 cylinders one or the back 3? The tube for the back 3 cylinders is crushed right near the catalytic converter and the thing idles rough and seems to be running rich. I'm having the muffler guy fix the crushed tube and bought a new sensor to put in, just not sure whether I'm putting it in the right place. The pipe is crushed right underneath the left (driver side, rear 3 cylinders) oxygen sensor, hence the suspicion. The Toyota parts guy wasn't sure.

Assume you've got a 95-97? Yota Parts guy didn't know! Run Forest, Run and call one of the parts dictionary sponsors here. CDAN, Beno, Sam to mention three.

o2 sensor number 2 should be the one after the cats, not the one before the cats.
AKA, rear

The 1FZ-FE is a single bank catalyst system. There is not a 2nd bank on a 1FZ like there is on a V6 (3.4L 5VZ-FE, for example) or a V8 (2UZ-FE for example).

As such, any error codes or any identification would proceed in this manner: Bank 1 Sensor 1, Bank 1 Sensor 2

V6/V8's would be: Bank 1 Sensor 1 Bank 1 Sensor 2, Bank 2 Sensor 1 Bank 2 Sensor 2

So I replaced the one closest to the driver side just in front of the catalytic converter on the pipe with the heat shield that connects up to the header, and it fixed the problem, runs much more smoothly, idles fine, and the check engine light went out. Interestingly, the check engine light stayed on for about 5 minutes after initially starting it and letting it idle, but now it's off and it runs MUCH better :) This is on a '93 FJ.

Thanks, as I feared the bank 2 sensor which my Toyobd 1 reader shows is flat lining is the inboard or Driver's side of the parallel Cats.
