I think I ran my 87 4runner out of gas(22re). Hard to tell with the dent in the tank. Is there anything I have to do to get it started?
I cranked it. Opened the fuel cap. Jumped the AFM. Jumped the fuel pump. Sprayed starting fluid in it.

The starting fluid started it for a second. And I hear fuel moving when I jump the pump, but still it won't start.
And just for the record, the dent has been there for months.

Anybody have any ideas? I'm new to fuel injection.

try loosening the cold start injector supply line.
and do this: ( to hopfully purge air out)

instead of hot wiring the pump,
unsnap the air filter housing and turn the key on, get your thumb up in the hole, from the filter sude, and open the door in there.
that will kick on your fuel pump.

it is possible the fuel pump is burned up and become weak, only supplying a few pounds of pressure.

it sucks to have to buy a new one, but at least on the 4runners, ther is a nifty acess plate under the rear passenger seat.

:mad:yes i need to cut a hole in the floor of my 62 next time the pump goes. i am not dropping that tank again

Sorry for the delay. I got it running Friday night and dragged it out to go wheeling. I don't have a computer for in the woods(yet).

It turned out to be a strange set of events that made this happen.
Short version:
Was trying the suggestions you gave and noticed none of the pump bypass methods were working. Did some digging and found something set off an old cutoff relay for an alarm system I didn't know the truck had. That caused a short which took out the under hood fuse and the main relay. Unwired it, replaced the fuse and relay, truck fired right up and ran all weekend.

Thanks everyone. With out your help my truck wouldn't have three shiney new dents.:)

Yep, pulling the cruise and all other unused wiring and do dads.
Time to thin out.
