Alan and I are looking at relocating in a couple of years and are starting to gather information about MO.

Here is a copy of a post he put up on another site. He is currently a Quality Engineer for Monroe shocks aka. Tenneco automotive.

Thanks Pam

"Hey everyone. Sometime in the next couple of years I'm looking to relocate. Currently looking at the area of Springfield Mo. but will consider all of Southern Missouri or Northern Arkansas. What I'm looking to do is get a list of manufacturing facilities in these areas. More specifically automotive suppliers, agricultural manufacturing...... This would include metal fabrication and forming. If you know of this type of facility in these areas please post company and location along with what they produce, how many they employ, what association with larger companies they have. I will put this info into my own storage file and keep it and start to look into some of these opportunities. Also if there is any rumor of companies planning on opening up anything, that would be useful. Thanks for your help and I sure appreciate your input."

Flex-O-Lators - Tier II automotive oem. Located in Carthage, MO. They make seating components for the automotive and furniture industries. They're owned by Leggett & Platt, a Fortune 500 company headquartered in Carthage. They employ about 100 people locally, 100,000 sq ft plant, and Leggett employs about 30,000 globally. They're a good company to work for - I used to.

Aaron's Automotive - Springfield MO. They rebuild transmissions for Chrysler and Allison. Appears to be a good place to work. I was offered a job with them and was in their plant numerous times (about 75,000 sq ft), but KC area pays better so that's where I ended up.

I lived in in the Springfield/Joplin area for 12 years so if you want more info let me know.

Actually, a couple hrs east of FN. Toyota has a subsidiary in Perryville, Farmington area is growing rapidly, has some manuf base for the car industry among others. From Farmington on up to St Louis ( Boeing, Chrysler, Anhauser Bush ) there's quite a bit. Al

There is a nice caterpillar plant down in West Plains, MO about 1.5 hours from AR and not far from a nice fishing and swimming lake. There is nothing spectacular there but is a nice medium size town with a Supercenter and many non-fastfood places.......also not far from the Mark Twain national forest for hunting and camping. If you have kids the school isn't terrible although like most larger schools there is a slight drug problem in the high school.

Here in Rolla, MO there is a Briggs & Stratton factory although they aren't always hiring and are prone to layoffs.

Joplin/Carthage MO -

Leggett & Platt, Inc - Parent company of Flex-o-lators that MOfj40 describes. 30k employees, 250 mfg locations worldwide, $5B sales.

Thanks for all the info it will be really helpful, keep it coming. With me being an RN, and hopefully a certified wound nurse soon, I shouldn't have to much trouble finding a job when we get ready to relocate.

Thanks
Pam

Are you guys set on MO? Wichita has positions in his field all over town. If he has any additional experience or training in Lean or Six Sigma he shouldn't have any trouble finding something in either state.

I'm not trying to bash Wichita, but southern MO/ northern AR has MUCH better wheeling opportunities, not to mention the scenery and general outdoor activities. The only problem is a lack of a large metropolitan area to provide enough jobs to drive wages upward, which is why I moved from there to KC.

Having been to Wichita I would have to say size, location, crime rate would not be my first choice. In answer to previous posts I do have experience with Lean and currently working toward Green Belt certification on Six Sigma. Soon to test again for CQE and plenty of experience in TS/ISO16949. Getting all the right knowledge (hopefully) to move forward. I agree, Wichita is BIG in wide range of manufacturing, but Southern Missouri is so much more scenic. Keep the feedback coming, I'll check some of the links you have left.
