I put in the deposit on April 3, 2003 and got the case on August 21, 2004. This was a killer deal, 5 years ago Marlin was selling his crawler gear set for cruiser transfercase for $1200. But for a bill more you could have the Orion crawler gear set, a cast iron xfercase, a full rebuild kit. Here's mine with warden CNC billet nose cone, and the hard to find '78-79 fine spline front output:

No, Ige. It's the real deal. (I know you are just joking. It only took AA about 18 months to get them on the street).

Mine is out in the garage. Helped the UPS guy lift it out of the truck the other day (didn't want him to drop and bust it like he did to my tablesaw some years back). 101 lbs, I think it said.

I haven't had a need for one yet, so I haven't tried to contact him. If it becomes a problem, I'll look into it further.

What's an Orion?

Hadn't heard about the Orion's. What are they? Who makes them and is there a link?

I've been planning on Marlin Crawlers when I rebuild my FJ-40 but I'm always looking for the best option.

Orion

They're from Advanced Adapters. It's been in the works for at least 18 months now and they are finally being shipped. It's a direct replacement for a 4-spd transfer case. Cast iron with 4:1 gears rather than the OEM 2:1 (or thereabouts). They had a pre-production price of $1370 ($100 deposit). Listed for $1670 now. Was about $50 shipping up the west coast (101 lbs.) via UPS.

Note also, that it's not an assembled t/c. It's the cast iron case, gears, and complete t/c rebuild kit. You need to use your existing covers, front output extension, input shaft, and few other things. Looks like a pretty easy assembly, though.

They come from outer space, just like the name suggests. I still do not believe they really exist physical form. These two guys just hit the crack pipe a little hard and thought a UFO dropped something in thier driveways.

You might just check with AA though, wonder what the lead time is on new orders.

That sounds pretty good. SOunds like and easier fit than the Marlin Crawler. This means you wouldn't have the option of the stock low ratio, just the super-low 4:1. Is that right? What are the pros and cons of Orion v. a Marlin Crawler?
