I have a 93 KZJ78 with the 1KZ-TE engine in it. It has 250K KMs on it with zero indications of any head issues. Safe assumption that the head has been replaced at some point in its past life?

No, I would not necessarily assume that. 1KZ heads last longer than 2LT ones.

I thought that even the KZs would most likely have a head problem in the first 100k or so?

No, they're much better than the 2LTEs. I think @Lomoski just replaced his first cylinder head at around 250,000km. I think he was having some temp issues before that though; so may have contributed to it.

Why would you think that? My brothers went 300000klms in harsh conditions.

My mistake, I thought I had read another thread saying the original heads in the early years went at around 100k.

When I still ran a business, I sold a number of 1KZ heads... want to say 4 or 5 during my time with Toyota.

I’d have one on the shelf along with a HG kit if I was committed to the platform.
