Looking at getting the Wife a 200, been browsing for one off and on for a while. Came across a decent deal in NY, being from the west coast and not having to deal with salted roads, what would your opinions be? The interior and exterior are in excellent condition but there is some rust on the undercarriage. The truck only has 50k miles on it and it is a 2008. The truck spent its first 3.5 years in Texas and the last 3.5 in NY.

Dad always said the only thing that will kill a yota is rust.

The "box of chocolates" analogy works here, too...because even beneath the smooth surfaces, you never know you're gonna get, or what's lurking underneath...

Of course a southern truck would be better but that's all frame surface rust. Wire brush and a few rattle cans and you'll be ok.
Everyone that lives in the north should be doing that to increase the longevity of their Yotas.

Have a 2007 4 runner that spent life in ny and pa. Always washed it every week in the snow and just wire wheeled the underside the.n used rustoleam sold at harbor freight and chassis saver. Took all of a few hours and a couple ramps but looks better than new. Very cheap to do as well.

That all looks like surface rust so wouldn't scare me if the deal is right

Not a snow dweller... What do you suggest for dealing with parts that are inaccessible underneath (back sides of parts, our inside toobs, etc. It seems like if rust is on the bottom-facing surfaces, it must be much worse on top, or inside, where residue tends to remain more heavily. What do you do for those areas?

-Snowless in San Diego... ;)

That was my thought and plan.

Agreed, my concern would be frozen bolts and rust pockets underneath not shown in the pics.

my plan would be have it steam pressure washed if i was to buy it, wire brush the rust, then rustoleum it.

Has anyone owned a 200 in similar salted conditions? how have they held up? the price is just right for the mile $36k with only 50k miles.. super clean everywhere else. just a tad worried as i said before as far as frozen bolts or being able to repair.paint the hidden surface rust underneath? Any known spots i should be worried about and ask pics for?

other 200's weve been looking at have been low 30k's with around 100k miles. we currently have a 100 with 280k miles so i know they run forever and love them, but trying to weigh the balance between 50k miles for $3k price difference and the possibility of rust...

Appreciate the input. I'd be doing the exact same thing. ever had issues with frozen bolts or other odds and ends? i do all my own work.. well 90% of my own work on vehicles.. but i have never worked on a vehicle from the Salt Belt

Ya, it's actually pretty easy to find lightly used 200's in Southern California due to all the LA area mall Cruisers. -But the OP shopper is in Tennessee. :(

True but we are trying to stay in the mid $30k mark and the wifey wants a 200 in silver or maybe white if its the right price/miles.

Are you willing to drive/fly to get one?

Sig shows Ca. Just assumed. I'd hold out for a South west vehicle.

08 LX, silver. $29.9 140k.
11 LX, while. $38.9 106k
