OPINION POLL: 16" vs 17" vs 18" rims

For all around use on a stock LC, what size do you prefer and why? I see lots of tire opinions, but just wondering of advantages or disadvantage or rim size? Thanks.

I have 18", but would have preferred 17" as a good compromise between 16" and 18". 16" is better offroad (higher sidewalls, better for airing down, more cushy on the road), 18" on the road (slightly harsher ride than 16", but better cornering, esp w/ a stiff suspension). 16" and 17" have lots of tire choices, 18" little in the OEM size, although more are being introduced in OEM and slightly larger than OEM size. 17" LC wheels are near non-existent. Some '03+'s came w/ 17's (the standard), but most dealers give you the mandatory "option" of 18" wheels.

I'm kinda diggin' these. I like the 35mm offset, rather than using the OEM wheels with 60mm offset and adding 1" spacers. They are cheap at $368/set. The only question is about the quality.

I think 17s are the new 15s and we'll see a lot more 17" options. I like the looks of the 17s as well.

those are the kind of rims that we get from the dealer back home. i know they are good but still i prefer the 16" cuz of the bumps

I like 16" wheels due to the superior choice of tire sizes and the much lower price of 16" tires.

18" would be second due, once again, to the availability of tire choices vs. 17", although the tires cost much more than 16" tires.

except at the UAE - they have them all over the place.. look at the photos posted from there ... they all have them

Also did you see Syriana? Most of the LC's in that movie except for the armored ones had those 17's on them.

I went the opposite way .... I have the LC 17's with 315/70/17 BFGoodrich AT Tires from (H2 owners that gives them away) for everyday use.

Then I have the LC 18's with 35x12.50/18 BFGoodrich Mud for off-road. With this mud tire I don't need the spacer that Slee sells (which I bought and have sitting around). I do like Hoser's combo with 35's and Toyo muds

Why did I go this way? Well the truck came with 16's - I wanted to go 17's because at the time I wanted 37x12.50/17 tires - I found some LC 17's in eBay - then the H2's came out and they were giving those tires away (my first set was $300 for all 4 and they were brand new). The 2nd set was $150 for 4 (FOUR) brand new with rims. I also decided at the time since I like the 17's so much AND the 18's were easily available that I wanted to use the 18's for off-road and if they get scratched then I can always get another one.

I don't do any hardcore trails that my tires are so aired down that I would worry about rim damage or a pinch flat.

As for the 37's well ... that is another topic and another project ......

I would say 16", Best offroad ability. And I mean really, how many people are looking for cornering ability on a four wheel drive. Especially a Landcruiser!!

I also like the amount of tires available for 16's.
If these came in black, wow. what more do you need. there is a 8 spoke. and those and sweet as well.

Yes but the one difference (plus difference in quality) is these eBay wheels have a 35mm offset as opposed to the OEM 17's with a 60mm offset.

I've been hearing about these H2 take offs. And I'm curious as to where+what kind of places to find these tires at those cheap prices.

I'd say 16's. More sidewall to smooth the ride offroad and create a bigger print when aired down.

Hit the dealer for those H2 takeoffs. My buddy runs a tire biz and gets those AT's for my friends. All the soccer moms who buy and drive H2's get a wheel and tire upgrade before they leave the lot so dealers are swimming in those extra tires.
