hello crew,

I am going to be repainting my 63swb. Here is the scoop.

In late 1963, the rig was purchased in San Bernardino, CA by the grandfather of the guy I bought it from (who luckily just parked it in a shed).
The grandfather immediately took the 45 over to the SBCounty Search and Rescue building where they:

1. Painted it red
2. Installed flashers
3. Installed an air horn
4. Installed a ladder, ropes, and other rescue equipment

When I bought it from the grandson, #4 was all removed.

Now, I like that red color - and there is a bit of history behind it. HOWEVER - underneath that red is a light cream color.

For historical reasons (I love to tell that story) and to kind of preserve that history I am thinking about painting it red again (it needs paint badly).

Only this time I am going to be using an actual Toyota paint code from 1963 called "T-335 Carnival Red"

I was thinking freeborn red, but it wouldn't look right on such an old rig - I don't know.

Here is the paint chip, OPINIONS????

And as many of you have already seen in my other post - here is the rig:

thank you for your opinions fellas.

You have, or can you get any pictures of it all dolled up with the ladder, ropes, and other rescue equipment?

Restoring it as such my be really cool :)

BTW...solar red looks like a closer match to me.

I vote solar as well - the carnival looks too dark......but 46 years of fade??? choosing paint colors is always tuff.

I know, I know ..... no help at all

Dallas-

I'm not a paint guy but... I would get a small sample of the colors you are looking at and paint something to see what it looks like. Everyone's monitor will show colors differently and it's hard to tell on a computer screen. I know you want this to be just like you want so it's worth the effort if you ask me.

As for the colors our rigs at work are closer to the solar red but most Engines are all different shades of red. The CBD Fire guys by my house have a darker color like Carnival Red. I'd say pick what you like unless...

You have a little time and want to see if you can find out what it REALLY was: Search and Rescue CONTACT US
Worth a shot if you find an old-timer willing to look up old records, etc... I know a couple San Berdo firemen as well if you get zero love right out of the shoot.

Good luck,

Dom

Go with the RED!!!!! Funny Thing, when searching for the original owner of my 45, I found out he was a San Bernadino County Fireman.

my 67 fj has the solar red. it has since faded. really looks good on older 40/45s. spring green is a solid second choice.
