Is anyone running an OME stock height replacement kit - N73/N74E shocks & 861/862 springs? While this is rather mild for many who post here, i'm wondering about the virtue of just doing this for a truck that spends most of it's life on the road, but could use a boost for occasional offroading. Get a modest lift from the springs over the stockers w/o having to introduce caster correction, then run BFG ATKO's at either the 275 stock size or up to 285's. Perhaps change springs later when a real bummper gets added.

When I originally replaced my aging OEM, I put Rancho 9000 shocks and then eventually the 861/862 setup. I was also running 285's. The 861/862 will give you about 3/4" lift. Plenty of room for any 285's. The improvement over aged OEM was trememdous in handling and wallow. This set up should be just fine if you stick with your described usage.

Yes,
I have recently done this mod with OME springs and bilstein shocks. After 100K the shocks and springs on the TLC were dead. It now drives so much better it's hard to believe. I do a lot of off roading but not much wheeling so I did not need the extra lift etc. The OME springs will lift you about 1/2 inch but for me it was about 1 inch since to old springs were sagging. I also went to a 285 Revo which added almost 1 inch. So I am about 1.5-2 inches higher from when I first got the cruiser. Plenty for my needs:cheers:

Greetings:

I am running this exact set-up. With Bfg 285's AT's. It lifted my truck a total of 1-1/2" from the original worn out shocks and springs. The ride, along with cornering improved dramatically. The 285's fit fine with no rub issues. As the rig sees little offroad use this was a nobrainer for me.

Huge improvement!

Ditto previous posts. A lot of bang for the buck. This was the first suspension upgrade I did from stock which was originally suggested to me by NorCalDoug to deal with an excessive highway swaying problem from the softer LX450 springs. I did the basic ome stock upgrade as you are contemplating. Like stlcruiser said, dramatic handling improvement and I got about 2 inch lift from the previous sagging springs...it visually made the rear more in balance (even) with the front.

Ditto again 861/862 with Bilsteins. Skip the OME shocks, the bilsteins ride better, handle better, and will last forever.

Would the stock height replacement kit still be the choice if I was considering front bumper, winch, sliders and rear bumper? Also is there anyone out there that has done this mod but DOES do alot of offroading? Seems like a few people have done this but most eveyone has said they do not do much offroading.

thanks

Doing more offroading, but don't know your definition. All I know from hanging around this board for a few years now and soaking up all this knowledge is that if you are putting that much weight front, middle and rear, you are going to want heavies and probably at least a 2 1/2" lift. That's what I've gone to and am extremely happy with the truck.

If I were doing all these things, I would go with the Medium 2" lift at a minimum. The weight of these is going to bring the truck down a little and if you are really off roading it, you will get the tail end hung up a lot without a lift.
