Does any one know how to tell the difference between an older and newer design longfield 27 spline birf?

Also do they still warranty the old design?

The new ones will be shiny chrome lookin like a 30 spliner and have the name "Longfield" lazer etched into one of the flats.

The old ones never really had a full replacement policy. The old ones were treated stockers or Empi stock replacements that had been heat treated and cryoed. If you were lucky you could get Bobby to weld a ring around the edge of the birf. The ringed birfs were actually very strong and would usually break the stub and not blow apart the bell. That means they look EXACTLY like a stocker except it will have the name "Longfield" stamped into one of the flats and some grinder marks around the edge if it has been ringed.

The old ones are obsolete and Bob doesnt do them anymore that I know of.
Hope that helps.

I called them, turns out he stamped even the early ones, so they are pretty identifiable.

Mine look like factory birfs with an added ring.

I think they are the original marfeilds, the ones he added an outer ring to but didnt heat treat. Still investigating though.

heres some pics if anyone has any ideas.

Do we know for certain he used EMPI to source from?

Some were treated Empis. If I recall correctly a stocker was stronger than a treated Empi shaft so he quit using the lower quality Empi imports.

If it stamped LF on the flat then ya gat an old Long trated shaft.

If it is not stamped at all but has a ring welded on then it is a marfield or other copy.

Thanks Chop Shop. Yes thats a stock treated birf, and he's right if its not stamped LF it's not ours. If its our treated birf and it breaks send me another good stock birf with the broken one an i will treat it for you. You only pay for shipping. Yes we did heat an cryo treat the old style birfs.
