As i ripped through the front of the motor today, i wondered if there was any way to get the old air conditioning going agaion the 75 fj40. Thinking i might just take it all out for now but thinking if i do it will never go back in...

Thoughts?

I think it is an old york, but not sure. Can you get the coolant or freon still for these old systems? Or better question, does the stuff "13" forget the lingo.., still work in older systems?

Spoke to a local guy and he said the same at the parts store. But told me that I needed to find a good shop that could either recharge or flush out r-12 and put in fresh 134. I am on the hunt now.

I figure after owning the truck for 15 years or so it might be nice to drive it and enjoy it before I die.. time is a wasting!

Any shops you know of?

Contact Jim at Lake Zurich Radiator. (847) 438-4334. Great guy and can still work with R-12. It's going to be expensive...

Most shops can do a conversion. When I still had my FJ62, I used Skokie and Lake Auto in Wilmette. A guy named Bill Anderson owns the shop -- good guy. He recovered my freon, and I replaced all the broken components inside, then brought it back where he vacuumed the system and recharged with R-12. The refrigerant was not cheap. I eventually converted to R-134 and did not see any difference in performance of the system.
