More pix up and ......

......thanks,Peter. The article is very cool!

I reinstalled the back seat yesterday and got a few more shots or the rig. The factory bumper was in the truck as the PO had removed it for a winch bumper. The OEM is quite straight.

I also got a shot of the upper rear door where the hinge tore out of the door. PO backed into something with the door up. It looks fairly simple and Blue, my 4x4 guy says it's a simple weld and minor straghtining of the hinge.

I'm headed up to his shop now for a look-see.

You've all been great! Keep it coming 'cause I'm not out of the woods yet!:D

Peter, thanks for that picture. That's about the color my wife wants ours to look like when it's done. It will be her around town weekend car.

The picture above is the new Fiat, Grande Punto Abarth. It has been an acclaimed road ralley car this year in Europe and could make it's way here if the Chrysler deal works out. Also the Linea (boring at stock) has been modified by Fiat Argentina and is ripping it up in SOuth America currently.

Gotta go change out an FI system now.

Later,

Mike

Sssswwwweeeeeeeeeeettttttt.............

Great pix, Peter. Loved the video too! I won't be building the 600D with that much flair but it would sure be fun.

Have you seen the 600 race on Youtube where the guy who wins the race crashes his ride while he's trying to celebrate? ALWAYS keep both hands on the wheel! ;)

Mike

The '67 comes home tomorrow

It's back together but the 2 small gears (top and bottom) in the diff need to be shimmed up a bit since the old ones were worn outside tolerance.

The gear ends of the axles were okay but two sheared bolts were located inside the axle shaft housing about half way up the driver side towards the wheel bearing.

Driving it will be interesting and I'm hoping for no surprises.

I drove the 45LV home today!!!!!

It was VERY cool! Yes there are issues but I have to say that the ride was really plesant. The PO installed adjustable hydraulic shocks on it and it went around a negative G's turn really nice.....better 'n Elvis!

The steering was good. There is noticable slop but the wagon wasn't wandering around. I took it up to 55 to see what might happen but the tires were well balanced and it didn't seem to mind highway speeds.

The hydraulic clutch isn't working all that well. When you let the clutch out nothing much happens till I'm almost all the way out, then it takes hold. Must be a combo of the pressure plate and the slave/master etc etc.

There is a scritch when down shifting to 2nd from 3rd but not impossible to shift. I assume 1st wasn't synchroed.

The motor dies at idle but the carb shows it needs a rebuild and there was a kit in the truck so I'll tweak that tomorrow. The brakes are there and will stop the truck just fine as long as you consicer your stopping distance. An emergency stop could get scary.

I will try the front diff tomorr after I seal up the vacuum leaks around the carb.

The motor, ride and body noise was hardly worse than Elvis. I'd be lying if I said it was the same but it was not disturbing in the least. After all, you have to consider what you're riding in but I've been in noiser FJ40's.

All in all....a B+ to A-...everything considered.

Will I be selling it? The Magic Eight Ball says, "It's quite possible."
I'm into the truck about 1950.00 now. If there's some way to convince my wife that we can't live without it.......... Has anyone checked on Hell lately? :D

I've had 5 or 6 people of interest. Throw some numbers my way and we'll see where it goes. More pix tomorrow after I detail the motor...cobwebs etc. and a valve cover gasket.

a) 1st isn`t synchronized on these
b) you`ve changed your fuel filter ?
It`s the first on the to do list.
(Had some problems with the rpm on my first ride (german Autobahn at 70mph, rpm doesn`t come down when I shifted down/ neutral to make a stop. Had this 3times or so.
Changed the fuel filter and the baby runs nice ;)
c) Think I have to make a call...* :D
d) don`t sell it !!!

Don't sell it cuz I don't have any cash at the moment!

I had very similar situation as you I had a very well built rock krawler/expedition daily driver fj62 and really only wanted an fj45lpb instead I bought my lv. my lv was in much different condition that yours is. it had a frozen v8 and a booty fabbed linkage/ shifting system and the guy (foxfab) i bought it from had started to collect parts for a restofication (87 2f, saginaw power steering bracket ect.) so I went the road of restofication or what ever the lame term is and built it to daily drive to get me on class VI roads and be a never ending hobby.

so 3+ years later it nearly broke me and i HAD to sell my fj62 but I was committed . I left the body completely stock but gave it a long list of upgrades. check out the Wilma build thread. but i stopped updating the thread as much due to negative posts and complaints and PM's saying I was ruining a legend.

so that said mine was a HUGE project just to get it on the road and was a mess to begin with. I can't begin to imagine all the crap you will get if you change one nut on that thing from stock.

But i like the way mine drives better than the fj62. I like everything about it better really. I don't miss the fj62 at all and I daily drove it for 7 years before the lv hit the road.

My opinion is unless you have a glass encased room to display it in then build it the way you want it. if you are set to tow with it then you have to consider the v8 option and your budget will tell you if that v8 is a chevy or toyota ( I relaly like the v8 in my dad's 2005 4 runner, which is the same as that vintage land cruiser ). i like the 2f and i have recently gotten a H55 so that combo will do for me.

that all said selling that truck to a tree huggin purest freak would prolly yield you enough money to buy a project lv and build it the way you want it with out as much crap from the purists.

don't get me wrong i love a musuem peice restored car but to me that doesn't quite fit the land cruiser. to me they were built to be used.

I hope this helps some. lv's are way cool drive it as is for a few months and see where your thoughts are then

Wow Jason...I can't believe you got that much cr*p for doing what you did. You did a great job, and it is a really nice rig. Like you mentioned yourself, it was already not-stock, so what the hell, might as well make something that YOU can truly enjoy...and again, it turned out really nice...and I am a purist!

Mike, good to hear that she is starting to grow on you. No one will give you sh*t for making any mods (those that do need to get a life) but, like we already discussed, this is a rare stock find, and people like me would love the chance to one day properly restore such a rig, so when you ask what you should do, this is what I will respond...and it's not for the "classic end value" it's because I really like the extra work to truly restore something as best I can...and I want to KEEP it and enjoy it once the resto is completed.

Either way, I always say the same thing, this is YOUR rig, and once you asked all the questions, and heard all the comments, it is up to YOU to do what is right for YOU and your family...just enjoy what ever it is you end up doing.

Hey...Thanks guys!!

I have considered all the options but not come to a conclusion yet. I'm not trying to be swayed in any direction other than what I chose to do.

The big concern is the wife. I know that if I keep it it'll be okay, as in she won't leave me. However she will complain about the money I'll spend, and the insurance, and all the cars around the house, and.....well, you guys are married so you know the drill. :D

I must say I felt pretty cool driving that beast home yesterday. :)

I'll be getting into the interior clean up today and inspect the rust on the floor. Film at eleven!
